Will Gov. Rod Blagojevich resign?

Settled as No

Background: President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday joined others calling for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign, distancing himself further from the unfolding scandal over allegations that the governor schemed to barter Mr. Obama's vacant Senate seat for personal gain.

"The president-elect agrees with Lt. Gov. (Pat) Quinn and many others that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said in response to questions from The Associated Press.

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday, accused of scheming to enrich himself by selling Mr. Obama's vacant Senate seat. The governor has authority to appoint the replacement.

In response to questions from The Associated Press, Gibbs said Mr. Obama believes the Illinois legislature should consider a special election to fill the seat. Gibbs says the hope is to put a process in place to select a new senator who will have the trust and confidence of the people of Illinois.

I'll wager this guy is not smart enough to resign, but instead will go down fighting all the way to impeachment.

Blagojevich Considering Resignation: Sources

The Embattled Governor May Be Mulling Exit As Impeachment Movement Heats Up

The push for impeachment gained traction in Springfield Thursday, as Gov. Rod Blagojevich tried to keep up a front of "normalcy," working at his downtown office.

Sources told CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine that the governor is actively considering resigning -- perhaps sooner rather than later -- as the move to impeach him gained new momentum and new urgency.

House Democratic leaders began to gauge the appetite within their caucus to support an impeachment motion that could be filed as soon as Monday.

Breaking news on MSNBC: Illinois Attorney General asks court to declare the governor unable to serve

he is going down one way or another. i live in IL (and I never believed even for a moment that he won the last election fairly either) and today heard on the radio that as long as he remains in office he doesn't even have to pay his lawyer fees. Right now IL is paying for his defense. This being the case, there is some speculation that he will remain in office to reduce the cost of his defense, but i also heard reports that he was starting to realize he was actually in trouble today.

Soooo...if impeachment is fullfilled, then I guess he doesn't actually resign?...he's fired? So for a "YES" result he has to beat them by resigning first BEFORE they impeach him, right?

Yeah he is going down. Of course the lingering question is how much president elect Barack Obama was involved

@notablenotices it's amusing how you fox news folks don't miss an op to link obama to everybody corrupt.

wonder how many of you think bout how Bush was partnered with Salem Bin Laden? Or how he had a pet name for Ken Lay? Or how adamant he was with his support for Tom Delay? Or how he pardoned Libby?

I'm wondering when your news outlets will report on how Obama is going to make abortion mandatory so we can speed up that stem cell research.

@conspiracy2riot

I have a feeling you will miss the days of Bush. Since you obviously lack the same aggressiveness for truth when it comes to Obama, you will likely fall into a behavioral pattern of those you enjoy dissecting.

I guess I mean to say...

It is already the general consensus that Bush was not a great president, but will you be able to say the same for Obama when he trips up? Or will you excuse the faults with cries of propaganda and fallacy? Will you find that you are open to seeing new places of corruption than the now ending presidency?

Are you one of the <20% who approve of Congress?

I don't mean to start a flame war. What I hope to do is point out that you are arguing against a claim by pointing to claims on unrelated issues. I would gladly take the time to read an argument against Obama's involvement with the corruption that Illinois breeds, but that is not what I find. I find instead the argument against the current administration; an argument that is not unique or on point. Frankly, it is an exhausted topic that would be better related to a market that likely happened years ago if at all.

Unfortunately I have finals and so I can't bring this type of discussion to the forums, but I think a friendly dispute there might be the best spot for Bush Bashing.

I don't think that impeachment can settle this market. He can still resign if he wants to. Innocent until proven guilty and whatnot. I believe that critical events for this question would include acquittal (maybe), conviction/removal, and resignation. But he is still Governer of Illinois, much the same as Clinton was still president after he was impeached. Here's some info:

I think we should open this market back up.

That's a good point.
