Will Mega Church leader Rick Warren have a donut thrown at him before or on Inauguration Day?

Settled as NO, no food is wasted

Background: Rick Warren has been invited by President Elect Obama to deliver the invocation on Inauguration Day, January 20th.

This has created an uproar with progressives who oppose Warren being the Spiritual Leader chosen to represent Obama who is seen as an agent of Change.

Rick was recently interviewed on his anti-homosexual position and he laughed and told the reporter he is kind to gay people.

Rick Warren: I Don't Hate Gays, I Gave Them Water And Donuts.

On a related note, this all but guarantees that during the invocation, Rick Warren will be pelted with donuts.

Read here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/18/rick-warren-i-dont-hate-g_n_152157.html

Based on this story alone it may be hard for his opponents to resist the temptation.

But just in case there is a donut shortage I've included a 'other food item' choice.

This food assault is to occur anytime between now and midnight January 20, 2009.

For settlement purposes, the first food thrown is the food that counts.

If no food is thrown it settles as "No food wasted".

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

Well since I got two tickets to the inauguration I am going to make sure to through a donut so I can win this market. I think 66% food is thrown is too high, I just don't see someone going through all the hassle of attending the inauguration and then throwing something at a person that was chosen by someone they support. Do we really believe secret service, park police, and the thousands of other protective services there will allow someone to get close enough to throw food at a speaker? So then do we settle based on someone throwing a donut that doesn't get anywhere close to the speaker. I am going to allow this market since it allows the possibility of him being pelted with a donut before inauguration day.

You just need a good arm to get it over the crowd. I wonder if "donut" only means round and with a hole, or any Dunkin' Donuts-style pastry? Personally, I think you'd do better throwing something with some more weight in it, like a cruller or a bear claw. At least go jelly filled. Of course, a rock with some frosting on it probably doesn't count as food....

Well not to be a heel, and discuss other soles...I beleive our current president had a shoe thrown at him! So surely a minister could have a donut tossed at him from now to the inauguration..i mean i dont think the pastors body guards are all that good at stopping donuts..and if i lived closer i would go to church and toss a few dunkins at him..

@ Destry Thanks for allowing this question. I also feel there's a better chance he will be hit with donuts prior to the inauguration. If he is I may just pose the question 'How many reports will there be of Pastor Warren being assaulted with donuts?" My inner child delights in this coming to fruition.

@lilia No need to scream dear. And you are mistaken. Please check this Christian website article Titled 'Obama Cites SErmon on the Mount for his support of Civil Unions.' He just isn't willing to call it 'Marriage'.

As for liberals throwing food at people, I happen to belong to a group called 'Food Not Bombs'. (They made the terrorist list after 9-11. Can't have radical subversives feeding people with nothing to lose when a Republican is in power, ya know?)

Having said this I think it should be clear that I stand in full support of food tossing.

i don't know obama's interpation of the bible. he as the rest of us interpurt it the way we see fit. you refer to the sermon of the mount as if it ok's gay marriage. as stated in the fourum the bible does no such thing imho. rick being a preacher would proablly say the bible does not condone-approve being gay or gay marriage. you tell lilia to back her statements up. do you back all yours up?

matt 5 - 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. IS NOT ONE OF THE COMMANDMENTS NOT TO COVET THY NEIGHBORS WIFE?

27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old,[c] ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[d] 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. IS THIS NOT REFERRING TO HETROSEXUALS?

31 “Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality[e] causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. IS THIS NOT REFERRING TO HETROSEXUALS? NO MENTION OF WHO EVER DIVORCES "HIS" HUSBAND.

d-dog,

You say "....you tell lilia to back her statements up. do you back all yours up?" I like to think I do. Example:

What lilia yelled was "OBAMA AGREES WITH RICK WARREN ABOUT GAY MARRIAGE.
HE SAID HE IS NOT FOR GAY MARRIAGE ", to which I softly replied: You are mistaken. Here's a link that proves it titled "Obama cites Sermon on the Mount to support Civil Unions".

What are you missing here?

As for your scripture toss, all I can say is you're slipping. You are trying to draw something out of nothing. I think that is dangerous space.

If homosexuality was so high on God's list of no-no's I think we'd have a clear reference and wouldn't be desperately pulling this 'hey, look, he said WIFE, not husband...that MUST mean ....'

I'm a follower of Christ myself, partner. Clearly you are not observant of the 'let each one work out his own salvation' or 'let each one be fully convinced in his own mind' bit. No, you feel a need to push for a theocratic government. And that IS what you are doing because the ONLY reason you can give that it's wrong is the Bible.

Let me ask you this....if you're so into the Bible guiding you why aren't you renouncing Capitalism and moving more towards Socialism?

How can you support war, let alone preemptive war?

Are you out preparing to celebrate the pagan holiday of Tammuz now being served up as the baby Jesus' birthday? Do you engage in the mass consumerism of Christmas in a way that would surely offend Jesus, were he here on Earth? Or are you out doing charity work, helping the least of these because the load is heavy and the workers are few?

Are you a 'consumer' Christian or a real player?

Obama cites Sermon on the Mount to support Civil Unions - IT DOES NO SUCH THING. BACK UP YOUR STATEMENT. WHERE DOES THE BIBLE-SERMON OF THE MOUNT SAY BEING GAY/GAY MARRIAGE IS OK? WHERE DOES IT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT CIVIL UNIONS..IE SAME SEX COUPLES BEING OK?

You say "....you tell lilia to back her statements up. do you back all yours up?" I like to think I do. - WHERES YOUR MSM SOURCE FOR BUSH MANUFACTURING EVIDENCE TO GO TO WAR?

If homosexuality was so high on God's list of no-no's I think we'd have a clear reference - YOUR THE ONE SLIPPING. I JUST SHOWED YOU PART OF THE SOM YOU THINK OK'S GAY/GAY MARRIAGE. IF YOU CHOSE NOT TO BELIEVE IT THATS ON YOU. TRUTH IS HARD TO TAKE WHEN IT HITS YOU BETWEEN THE EYES.

'hey, look, he said WIFE, not husband...that MUST mean - FEEL FREE TO SHOW SCRIPTURE THAT SAYS GAY/GAY MARRIAGE IS OK IN GOD'S EYES.

I'm a follower of Christ myself, partner. Clearly you are not observant of the 'let each one work out his own salvation' - PLEASE READ FIRST 2 LINES IN MY COMMENT #17.

ONLY reason you can give that it's wrong is the Bible. - I PERSONALLY DON'T THINK BEING GAY/GAY MARRIAGE IS NATURAL. I ONLY USED THE BIBLE IN THIS INSTANCE CAUSE YOU USED IT. JUST SHOWING YOU THAT YOU WAS WRONG.

Let me ask you this....if you're so into the Bible guiding you why aren't you renouncing Capitalism and moving more towards Socialism - ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME HOW MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD SHOULD BE? WHAT HAPPEN TO LET EACH WORK HIS OWN SALVATION? SEE THERE YOU GO AGAIN..ONE MINUTE YOU HAVE A VIEW AND THE NEXT YOU CHANGE IT. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU SUPPORT OBAMA.

YOU WANT TO BE A FLAME THROWER THATS FINE BY ME. I USUALLY JUST LAUGH AND MOVE ON. WHEN YOU GO WAY OVER THE LINE I'LL LET YOU KNOW. HAVE A NICE EVENING.

wow, all this hollering and Bible spouting.
First things first: Let us all practice the Greatest Commandment: Love thy Neighbor. Now you do not need to like the neighbor, heck you dont even have to pay attention to the neighbor but you have to love that neighbor. And the man who said this wasn't talking aobut the ones you got along with; the man was talking aobut the one that made your skin crawl, the one you just wanted to slap the crap out of. Now that man because he did those things and preached those things got his butt hung up on a cross. Don't let his death be for nothing; at least follow that one simple as he said most important commandment, the greatest commandment of all. Cause he knew if oyu looked at every person as your neighbor and loved every person as your neighbor, then all that other stuff would work itself out.
Now with regards to gay marriage:
we have to remember something. Separation of church and state. Not every person in this country is religious. And that part of the constitution is quoted on a frequent basis. No one is talking aobut churches, synagogues, mosques, etc being forced to perform a same sex marriage. Churches can say no, they ahve that right. They are free to tell people of different races they cant come in the doors, They are free to refust marriage and anything else. See there is a little known case back in 1989 or so that tested that out. Little boy was enrolled in a Church Run Nursery School, the school was state liscensed, so when they tossed the little boy out on his ear cause he had AIDS, momma took them to court. The church was free to discriminate based on whatever they wanted to, separation of church and state.
Obama or any other president signing into law "gay marriage" means that people of the same sex can go get themselves a wedding certificate, can legally be married in the yese of the law....there is nothing said about eyes of the church et al.

Remember as to what Jesus said: render unto Caesar that which is Caesars and unto the Lord that which is the Lord.
Let us keep the two things separate.

Tolerance is a funny thing in itself. you see I'd call myself tolerant. I'd tolerate about anything, everyone's opinion.

But still, in one point I'm definitely not tolerant: Whenever it comes to intolerance. Intolerance is something I will never tolerate.

And intolerance is often found when discussion religion or religious topics (just like here) and regardless the religion in question. And to me it doesn't matter whether it is a fundamental Muslim or a fundamental Christian intolerance.
posted 48 weeks ago
Haha, by not being tolerant of intolerance you have become intolerant. That means you are intolerant of yourself and your own opinions. That must be hard.
posted 48 weeks ago
@kruijs:

So do you think others will tollerate your intollerance of the intollerable? or will we see anyone tollerating the intollerants tollerably?
posted 48 weeks ago
@ d-dog, again i reiterate it is not ME citing the Sermon on the Mount. I'm showing Obama has made his opinion known and it does not support what lilia said.

Regarding my point on Christianity I am but trying (and apparently failing) to demonstrate that I fail to see how greed and God go together.

Pertaining to my statement that about scripture you cited, I was attempting to emphasize you are taking a position based on what ISN'T said to make a case for what you believe God wants. And it appears that is the ONLY reason you have to support denying same sex couples marriage.

deanthoreau brings the point closer to home by mentioning separation of Church and State. While you are most definitely within your rights to morally oppose SS marriage you cannot find grounds to oppose constitutionally. I suspect this is true for most Christians having difficulty reconciling this, thus their need to suddenly see State constitutions amended to further 'define' what 'marriage means.

After reviewing my commentary calling you out for what type of Christian you are I feel the need to apologize. I have no way of knowing what is in your heart, it truly is not my place to judge and dean is right; the law of LOVE is what should prevail here.

Now, can we all take a deep breath, get some water and a donut and see where this leads us?

When I came on board here a few weeks ago, I was under the impression that this group was about predicting future events. The only issue should be whether some idiot ruins the solemnity of a presidential inauguration by throwing pastry or some other object at an individual -- one who was invited by the president-elect.

Security will be extremely tight and I believe that only the most carefully screened will be allowed anywhere near the podium. The odds are that the donut-throwing fringe will be kept well out of range. That's where I'm putting my "money."

But I guess a valid question would be how close to Pastor Warren the item has to land. Would a hundred yards away qualify as a "hit?" What about 50 yards? How about if someone here in the midwest tosses a pastry in the general direction of DC?

Oops, never mind. I just realized that the question is wide open, covering every second from now through the inauguration. We all could be hit by any object tossed by any nut-job through a timeframe that big. Wager withdrawn.

Please list all sub-species of donuts.
posted 48 weeks ago
I think a donut by any other name is no longer a donut . Operating on that premise, I think other foods are everything edible that is NOT a donut.

Now...the donut can have frosting or be plain. I do believe a 'jelly' donut would count as a donut but you've stumped me by muddling the waters with this 'jelly stick'.

Therefore I submit that the donut must be donut shaped but it should be allowed that it has a filling.

If anybody can make a really good case for why the jelly stick should be considered a donut when it's not called a donut and it isn't round like a donut, by all means please do and we shall debate the merits.

Your question basically allows for anyone to throw any food item in the general direction of Warren at any time during the next few weeks from anywhere in the world. What would be the odds...maybe 90% likely?

Once I finally figured that out, I withdrew my wager ("No"), which was based on the premise that nobody within food throwing range at the inauguration would be likely to do so.

I think after the Warren interview today..there is an eextremely high likelihood that a few Pizza's will be tossed at the Preacher
i quoate "Mr. Warren's relating gays to pedophiles, incest and gay marriage to his incessant craving of sex with women he was not married to caught me a little off guard.," said Ms Curry, "But after the camera stopped filming he went on to make the comparison of gays to pizza, I must say, I was startled."

"Just because I like pizza it doesn't mean I should marry it," said Warren. "Biologically, I am predisposed to enjoy the immaculate melding of mozzarella cheese, red sauce and thick crust baked to tasty perfection. But that doesn't mean I should enter into a lifelong commitment with Sicilian or plain, nor bed it down" this was siad In an interview with Ann Curry on NBC's Dateline, by Evangelist Preacher, Rick Warren

It almost sounds as if Warren's trying to come out of the closet here. The message of his retarded metaphor is that he likes pizza (i.e. homosexuals) but that he doesn't want to marry it (i.e. a homosexual). There is also something very disturbing about the fact that in some part of his Christianity-addled mind, he connects homosexuals to an Italian food product. I believe that Warren needs a long night in a big bed with a huge, hairy-backed Sicilian beast of a man. Then he'll see the Light.

If God wasn't in favor of homosexuality, why did he create Sergius and Bacchus, who incidentally, were Roman, which is almost like being Italian.
