Will the Tata Nano finally race down India’s streets in 2009?

Settled as Yes

"Tata Motors has delivered 2,475 units of its small car Nano, billed as the world's cheapest four-wheels, within 15 days of its commercial roll-out."

Background:

Background: The launch of the Nano, slated to be the world's cheapest car, was greeted with a rapturous welcome at the Delhi autoshow in January 2008.

But its launch was delayed after Tata Motors shifted production to Gujarat state in October due to violent protests by farmers unhappy with the compensation given for their land in West Bengal state.

Looks like it should be done this year . . . BUT . . .even after yesterday's announcement, the statement from the press stated:

"The company has unveiled a lottery system for prospective buyers of the first 100,000 cars, which it said will hit the roads in July."

So maybe we shouldn't settle quite yet...the first cars haven't actually gotten to the buyers, have they?
