Which extraterrestrial body within our Solar System will reveal life first, by 2011?

Background: If we ever do find extraterrestrial life in the solar system, it's probably much more likely to look like a few cells than a walking-and-talking green man. Nonetheless, finding any kind of life beyond Earth would be extraordinary.

If there is no news or findings by the suspend date, question will settle as 'None by that date'

Does it have to be life existing now or can it be life that has existed in the past?

My assumption was finding existing life, but excellent point! Either would be quite the story.

I heard the same thing galad on NPR today. While I firmly believe there has been and probably still is life on Mars, we're probably at least 3-5 years away from finding conclusive evidence of life on Mars. The next mission with a chance of gaining new insight isn't going to launch until 2011.

"Final proof that Mars has bred life will be confirmed this year, leading NASA experts believe. The historic discovery will come not on Mars itself but from chunks of the red planet here on Earth. David McKay, chief of astrobiology at NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Houston, says powerful new microscopes and other instruments will establish whether features in martian meteorites are alien fossils."

Nice article Biped; this would seem to make Mars and None by that date the two contenders...
