How much will Barack Obama's old car sell for?

Settled as $100,001 - $300,000

The winning bid is US $271,300.00 as per the ebay site http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330301140685

Background:

Background: WASHINGTON -- A luxury Chrysler sedan that U.S. president-elect Barack Obama drove before winning the White House is being auctioned off on eBay. The starting bid is $100,000.

Tim O'Boyle, the general manager of a restaurant in Hillside, Ill., west of Chicago, is selling Obama's steel-blue 2005 Chrysler 300C Hemi on the Internet auction site, hoping to cash in on history. The price is a cool $1 million under eBay's "Buy It Now" option. "In my mind, it's a one-of-a-kind car," O'Boyle said Wednesday.

Obama leased the car in 2004 at Park Plaza Dodge in Forest Park, Ill., and swapped it for a Ford Escape Hybrid in 2007. The vehicle was transferred back to the dealership, where O'Boyle bought it used last February. Before driving off, "one of the guys over at the car dealership said: 'You better hold onto that thing,"' said O'Boyle, an Obama supporter. "I said: 'Why's that? And he said: 'Because it used to belong to Obama."'

Gary Hall, finance director for Park Plaza Dodge, confirmed Obama had leased the car from the dealership and O'Boyle later bought the vehicle. O'Boyle tried to sell it on eBay in December but stopped the bidding process when his accountant told him to wait until he had owned it for a year for tax reasons. O'Boyle said the top bid on eBay was $125,100 and another person contacted him offering $150,000.

Anything near that amount would be a coup. Kelley's Blue Book values a 2005 Chrysler 300C in excellent condition at $15,750. A 2009 300C has a list price of $27,415 but sales of the car took a nosedive in 2008. Chrysler LLC sold 62,352 300C sedans last year, a 48-per-cent decline over the previous year.

Do you think it will rank up there with the John Voight car that George Costanza bought on Seinfeld?

I was JUST wondering the same thing, buckeye.

Damn if that particular episode of Seinfeld hasn't come up in conversation an awful lot of late, in my world.

I hope what he's doing is somehow against the law and he ends up making negative money on it. Such opportunism just really annoys me.

u mean jenni if you got a hold of one of abraham lincolns hats, or the car JFK was shot in, or a book autographed by Jesus,, you would not sell it? keep it all pretty like? collect it?
or a baseball signed by Babe Ruth? or 20,000 baseball cards from the 50's???
Or the football used in the first super bowl?
and u needed money? or wanted money?
Well my goodness if u can answer no to all that and tell me you would let your child take the 1st super bowl football outside and play tackle with the dog and dad, and pass the ball around...you are a one hell a va saint...if u answered yes in any way shape or for..or said no but I wouldnt let the kid....u r human and i can stop building the pedestal :) You will just have to stay on your throne

DISCLAIMER: I am teasing with jenni...i swear if i get any hate mail i will do something horrible like get conspiracy2riot all riled up about something, or go stalk coolkraft's sports picks again :)

oh and... the man selling the car is not doing anything wrong...the idiot willing to bid and spend outrageous amounts has more money than he needs and obviously he must be a CEO of a bank. seriously tho don't u wonder aobut the sanity of the bidders....A corn flake that has a wrinkle that if u squint real hard looks like jesus...or elvis and sells for thousands...a car that obama once drove, that while he sat in that front seat,,messing with the radio, hollerin at the kids in the back seat, farting on the front seat,,,opening the window so he could exhale the smoke...is now going to sell for an outrageous amount just cause of a fart? potentially an epithealial (cell of skin) may still remain,,or perhaps hidden beneath the seats unseen by anyone for months and several forensic cleanings a strand of hair....people are friggin nuts!

HA! He bought the car he wanted, a GREAT car (I own an '06 300C and I love it), then he swapped it for a hybrid when he started running for President! Can't drive a V-8 Hemi when you're s'posed to be an ordinary guy's President and concerned about carbon footprints too! Glad I'm not a pol, I can still drive my great 300C!

Who wants to buy my '06 Chrysler 300C for $110000-- lower miles than Obama's and better color: Vanilla with tan interior. My car has a gorgeous shiny chrome aftermarket mesh grille too, his doesn't. Mine is almost like a bargain Bentley! This car can MOVE too!! 5.7L V-8, 340 HP. Still, it gets 26 MPG on freeway (observed on two recent San Diego- Las Vegas round trips, over the Cajon Pass) even at 80 MPH cuz it cuts 8 cylinders down to 4 while cruising. City only around 13 MPG.

Reason for huge discount compared to Obama's car: I have given several speeches to groups of 30 people, but not several thousand speeches to groups of 10,000+ and on TV like Obama has. I have written lots of business memos but not a book about my father yet. And I am not the President-elect. So you get a price break!

This is a private offer to Hubdubbers before I list on Ebay. Can work with you a little on price and terms. Get your offers in: You snooze, you lose!

@cheesenips - Nice car!!! I don't care whose butt sat in the driver seat, but I would like my butt to be the next... I'm willing to negotiate. Would you accept H$750,000 for your car?

@fingers - I'm flattered by your offer (and even more flattered by the offer of your butt, which I hereby respectfully decline), but it's way too high. Would you consider paying $14.99? I will not take a penny more!

It's at $271,400 now with 1 hour left to go ... I'm anticipating there won't be too much last minute bidding, but I could be wrong ...
