Will the US Postal Service continue their six day delivery schedule through 2009?

Settled as Yes

This one can be settled before the end of the year, since Congress is unlikely do take any actions before them in regards to this issue...six day service is still alive, and seems to be for some time to come.

Background:

Background: Background: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090128/ap_on_go_ot/meltdown_post_office

The USPS is considering cutting back on service hours to cut costs. The Postmaster General suggested moving to a 5 day delivery schedule from their current 6 day delivery schedule. Will any delivery schedule cut happen in 2009? Or will the USPS keep their current hours?

USPS schedule cuts must be national for this market to settle No. Any national cut in delivery will settle as No, even if the Post Office moves to something like a 5.5 day delivery schedule.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

A bit of info from Destry on this that I thought might be helpful:

"The postmaster general has asked congress to remove the clause that forces them to deliver on 6days of week, the postmaster general said that even if it was removed, it might not be something they need to do, just want it as an option"

So two things apparently have to happen...they have to get permission first, then decided whether or not they're going to follow through....so getting permission would not be enough to settle, they would have to actually announce that they are taking action....

My town is so small that the window at the Post Office is closed on Saturday. You can't buy stamps or sign for insured packages, but mail is delivered and also put into boxes at the P.O. This market is longer term than I like to bet on, but it's a true "no brainer". :-)
