Will President Barack Obama receive a cigar as a GIFT from the Cubans authorities ?

Background: In 1994, it put Fidel Castro on its cover (the same year as Rush Limbaugh, incidentally). The publisher, Marvin R. Shanken, flew to Havana to interview Mr. Castro” who had quit smoking about nine years earlier.
(Mr. Shanken: You are saying that you do not smoke even in the privacy of your home by yourself? Mr. Castro: No. Mr. Shanken: Not even a puff? Mr. Castro: No. No. Mr. Shanken: Not even a little puff? Mr. Castro: Not one.)

Now, we have a new administration that we, at least, believe has some receptivity to the idea that our Cuba policy needs to be re-examined, Mr. Mott said. It is a propitious time to raise the question and be very pointed in some of the things that we believe.

Asked if he was worried about alienating some readers, Mr. Mott said he was not.

I dont want to say that its a misconception that the audience is largely Republican, but I dont think that is 100 percent accurate, he said. It points out a basic belief that we have, that cigars are at least apolitical, or certainly bipartisan.

We have really covered Cuba since the magazine started in 1992, Mr. Mott said. Its clearly part of what we consider our journalism and editorial duty to the readership of cigar smokers that we have.

So is Cigar Aficionados position that cigars are more important than politics?

Id just say cigars bring people together, Mr. Mott said. They provide a common ground for people to, lets say, maybe, rise above politico

That would be a good way for the Cuban authorities to have a bit of fun at the expense of the US. 8:]
