Will the actress that wins the best actress Oscar cry?

Settled as No

Although clearly a little gushy, Kate managed to hold herself together. No tears!

Background:

Background: Category Editor Clarification: Any crying must take place during the actual acceptance, either walking, holding the statue or giving her speech. As I'm not promising to watch all 5 hours of this nonsense, it must also be reported by a mainstream media source as "crying" or "tearing". If she chokes up, during the speech, that will be enough, but again, it must be reported by msm.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

I say, settled incorrectly, the Times says "Winslet appeared close to tears as she mentioned the Oscar-winning directors Anthony Minghella and Sidney Pollak, who both died last year."

Def. settled incorrectly. The rules stated, "If she chokes up, during the speech, that will be enough, but again, it must be reported by msm." Can we get an appeal?

wally - flag the question. that will send an email to the admin. you will need a link from MSM source to make your case.

Sorry all, thought I had replied here yesterday but this laptop is kinda persnikity.

I have yet to see an article that suggests she cried. "She held back tears". "She may have been near tears"... etc. Nothing says she actually cried or got choked up. If you have a MSM that says otherwise, you can send it to me and I'll consider it, but I have spent quite a bit of time googling "Kate Winslet Tears/Crying" and I really don't think it exists.

from the background: "If she chokes up, during the speech, that will be enough"

this means, although otherwise implied by the question title, crying is not necessary to settle "yes".

Aw, c'mon the Times said she 'appeared close to tears' - that's mainstream media. Me, I thought she choked up during the speech. Of course you could say she was just acting... for cryin' out loud!

It's true this question could be more decisively phrased, perhaps, or that the crying could be unquestionably present or absent - tis a bit fuzzy, unlike her performances at the Globes (cry) or BAFTAs (not cry). However, again to refer to the Times rather than my opinion, I note the 'close to tears' was in context, not (just) of winning the award, but also to Kate's (voluntary) reference to two recently deceased directors (with whom I believe she had worked, tho I haven't checked this) - thus, both grief and joy, some halting words, perfectly appropriate.

I would also say that pictures show her 'tearing' or perhaps 'dewy eyed'.

It does seem to be true that sportsbetting.com decided she didn't 'cry' but of course Hubdub goes by the description... doesn't it?
