Will any nation other than Japan prevent the Steve Irwin from leaving its port by sea during 2009?

Background: On February 6, the Japanese government asked Australia and the Netherlands to take appropriate actions against the anti-whaling ship Steve Irwin. Earlier that day, the ship was accused of crashing into the Japanese whaler Yushin Maru No.2. It has also been accused of entangling Japanese propellers and throwing rancid butter at the whaling fleet. No Japanese crew members are reported hurt.

Sea Shepherd captain Paul Watson said there was nothing he could do to prevent the collision. He also accused the Japanese whalers of acting "increasingly aggressive." He also accused the whalers of using high-pressure water cannons and acoustic weapons.

After Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Nobuhide Minorikawa met with Dutch ambassador Philip de Heer, he said the two countries would continue cooperating to prevent dangerous behavior. However, the Steve Irwin refuels in Australia, far away from the Netherlands

Category Editor Clarification
We envision that requirements for 'yes' settlement will include one of the following:
Nation arrests one or more crew members while in port
Nation refuses to fuel the ship
Nation refuses to repair the ship
Nation bars the ship from its port (because you have to enter a port in order to leave the port.)

These jackasses have to be stopped. I'm talking about the Steve Irwin of course. I know more than my fair share about the rules of the water and the Steve Irwin definitely intentionally rammed the Yushin Maru No.2 and nearly caused another collision by cutting across the bow of another ship. These mouth-breathing morons have to be stopped before they kill people. What they are doing is extremely dangerous and I expect the Japanese will take further, and possibly more fatal, actions to defend themselves from this idiocy.

What the Steve Irwin is doing is putting human lives at risk to try (unsuccessfully) to save animals that aren't even an endangered species. Unfortunately radical environmentalists and animal rights groups usually think that is a good thing.

Why the hate curios? Go back to having threesomes with kangaroos and feeding babies to dingos. You are nothing but another internet tough guy. Have fun acting tough on the internet because you know you are a pu**y. More advanced? You can barely write a legible sentence.

Really? You are going to prove how much better educated you are by claiming that whales are not animals? That says it all.

curios,
You have to be the dumbest person I've ever conversed with. All mammals are animals (that technically includes humans). Do some research, read a book, something to try to increase your intelligence. There is nothing worse than an incredibly ignorant person who is absolutely SURE that he/she is right about everything.

fingers,
I guess since whales are now 'sea kittens' that makes kittens 'land fish'. Mmmm... sounds delicious!

I thought fish were sea kittens. Shouldn't that make whales some kind of sea elephant by scale? Except elephants aren't quite cute enough.. how about 'sea pandas'?

jenni,
I think PETA is using 'sea kittens' to describe all sea animals. Either way, I'm going to get me some land fish and a bottle of A1.

Another instance of terrorism at sea:

Ships collide in Antarctic whaling clash
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jewzIplRYZkAnZXV3-5D4My8G4jgD96665B00
A group of radical anti-whaling activists said they were pelted with bloody chunks of whale meat and blubber after their boat collided Friday with a Japanese whaling vessel in a dramatic Antarctic Ocean clash Japan condemned as "unforgivable."

It was the second battle this week between the whalers and their foes. No one was injured, but the skirmishes mark the resumption of potentially life-threatening run-ins in a contentious fight that has become an annual fixture in the remote, icy and dangerous waters at the bottom of the world.

"The situation down here is getting very, very chaotic and very aggressive," activist Paul Watson, captain of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's vessel, told The Associated Press on Friday by satellite phone.

SO lets put it to sleep.

The U.S.-based Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which Tokyo sharply rebuked after Friday's collision, also said whalers had thrown golf balls and chunks of metal at its ship the Steve Irwin.

"The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin continues to stand guard behind the Japanese floating abattoir called the Nisshin Maru, despite repeated assaults by frustrated and increasingly violent Japanese whalers," Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson said.

The Japanese should defend themselves from these eco-terrorists by any means necessary. I don't think people realize the dangers of purposely colliding with a ship like they did. That water is very dangerous if a man falls overboard. These terrorists are putting the lives of animals before the lives of humans. A quote from the article curios provided: "The protest ship collided with the vessel in an attempt to block the transfer of a dead whale up the slipway of the factory ship Nisshin Maru." Putting men's lives at risk for a DEAD ANIMAL is irresponsible and, looking at the video again, should be considered attempted murder or at least gross negligence. The crew of the Steve Irwin should consider themselves lucky. If they keep on with their terrorists activities the Japanese should board the terrorists' vessel, capture the crew, and scuttle the Steve Irwin. Then they should tell the Australian government that if they do not stop harboring terrorists the crew of the Steve Irwin will be tried in Japanese courts. That is what I would do and I expect a similar reaction by the Japanese if the terrorists continue their careless campaign of aggression.

Next season I bet the Japanese will hire a bunch of Somali pirates and unleash them on these guys!

if you are going to quote in part because it suits you why not add all not forgetting it is a us based society

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Anti-whaling activists involved in a collision with a Japanese whaling ship near Antarctica accused whalers of using water cannon and acoustic weapons against them and vowed on Saturday to further obstruct the hunt.

"The three Japanese harpoon boats are not in the area but the Sea Shepherd crew is prepared to obstruct them should they return," he said in a statement.

On Friday Tokyo blamed the group for the collision with the harpoon ship Yushin Maru 2, accusing it of violence. The protest ship collided with the vessel in an attempt to block the transfer of a dead whale up the slipway of the factory ship Nisshin Maru.

Watson said Japan's claims the group used "acid" against its fleet, in fact referred to rotten butter.

"They are accusing the Sea Shepherd crew of throwing rotten butter (which the Japanese refer to as 'acid') at them yet the whalers are throwing golf balls and chunks of metal at the Steve Irwin crew.

"In addition, the Japanese are blasting the Sea Shepherd crew with water cannons and long range acoustical weapons -- a sonic gun that causes disorientation, nausea and deafness."

Japan's whaling fleet is in Antarctic waters for an annual hunt aimed at catching about 900 whales. Although Japan officially stopped whaling under a 1986 global moratorium, it continues to take hundreds of whales under a loophole allowing whaling for research purposes.

I must say, pullover, that while I agree with curios, I admire your style of argument, which is to wind him up and then let him make an ass of himself.

it is worth noting, however, that the japanese are hunting and killing an endangered species, in the face of global condemnation of their activities and a global moratorium on commercial whaling, which they avoid by claiming that their program is a scientific one, despite the fact that little to no research is done.

I would also like to point out that sea shepherd has never killed or seriously injured anyone in their activities, despite the fact that they have put a stop to the blatant killing of many endangered and protected species, and have caused millions of dollars of damage to vessels engaged in these activities. sea shepherd has demonstrated numerous times that they are a responsible organisation that takes great care to avoid injuring people in their work.
