Will Rand Al'Thor die?
Robert Jordan began the wildly successful Wheel of Time series in 1990 but died in 2007 before finishing the last book. His widow selected a relatively new author, Brandon Sanderson, to finish the book using Jordan's copious notes although reportedly Jordan had already written the ending.
For more on the book, see the Wikipedia entry or Jordan's website.
Category Editor note: Like TV/Movie plot line twists, markets related to book plotlines must be explicitly approved. As I am a personal fan of the series and already follow the news on the book, this one will be allowed. If you have ideas for other plot line markets you can email/shout.
Settlement details:This will be settled as "yes" only if Rand is dead at the end of the book. If he dies momentarily and then is "resurrected" in some fashion, it will not count. If an epilogue mentions his death of perfectly natural causes at a ripe old age or is set some thousand years into the future, it will not count.
There is some talk that the final book may be too long and will be split into two volumes. This market would encapsulate both volumes. Should the publish date be pushed back the market can likewise be extended (you can track Brandon's progress on his website: http://brandonsanderson.com/). May suspend if plot details begin to leak or an early manuscript is posted online but will not settle until two weeks after the the actual book is published (and I get to read it).

Huh ???
Fictional death vs real death ?
Please, if you don't want death, it must be to all Q's, fictional and non fictional. To be equal
The new rule only applies to a small portion of questions on the site and many of them can be still allowed if asked in a slightly different manner.
I have been watching the commenting going on here the last couple of days and recognize that some of the people who are protesting this are using the approach of exaggerating how many questions this will affect. This question for example is obviously not offensive. Some may try to argue that it is offensive but my response would have to be "spare me."
I find it intriguing how the main tactic used to protest is to exaggerate how many questions this will affect. If this matter is indeed such a serious one, why would one feel the need to exaggerate it?
And I'm not exaggerating, mork. I've had to table 5 Q's on timely news stories because there's no clear way to get around the death factor and have them retain their impact.
But ya know what? I think I've found some Q's that have nothing to do with death that have some precedent set as being allowable here and they'll be a damn site more fun than this one.
Perhaps it's time to test the limits on what else needs to be banned here in the good ole family fun world of HD.
Spoiling or not, in my opinion Rand probably will die. That's how all the enormous book sounds to me.
But I really hope that he will not.
If he will, I'll return back all my reading as a sign of protest :).
Cheers friends and fellow users!
And, Conspi: here's a little remark. All your recent series of "porn" questions is nothing but simple lack of good taste. I don't like to flag questions, but I really would like to see all the series voided. Do not overreact to a very peripheric and not at all main problem here in Hubdub. There are many others and enough serious deserving real attention than this not so important development.
