Will the Indiana school bus driver be convicted of felony neglect of abuse?

Suspended

Suspend date reached

Background:

Background: A Northwest Indiana prosecutor has charged a school bus driver with felony child neglect for allegedly doing nothing to stop three boys from terrorizing female students on his route.
Court documents state Terry Burch, 67, of Portage failed to prevent physical abuse to the girls or failed to report it.

The documents filed Friday also stated that Burch did nothing when the three boys -- two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old -- threatened Burch and others, exposed their genitals on the bus, exposed their buttocks to passing motorists, ignited a flammable body spray on the bus and created other disruptions.

Portage Township Schools Resource Officer Cpl. Troy Williams said Burch denied knowing the reported behavior was occurring on the bus.

A message seeking comment was left at Burch's home Saturday.

Burch told the Portage Township School Board on Monday that drivers cannot see what happens in the back of buses and that no parents notified him of problems. Burch then collapsed at the meeting and was released later after being treated at Porter hospital.

One girl who claims to have been repeatedly groped on the bus told officers she reported the abuse to Burch more than once.

Suspend date is a very rough estimate of when this goes to trial and so might need to shift.

This question will settle as "yes" if Terry Burch is found guilty of either or both failing to prevent abuse and/or failing to report it.

This is nuts how many 67 year old man take on 17yr old kid's if they would have beat the crap out of the bus driver the prosecutor would have let them walk

Yeah, but if the girl reported the abuse he should have called the cops or something. After all he knows where the kids live he could have called the cops after the route had ended and told them where to go. Of course in all fairness to him, he probably thought that it was just kids playing around.

I'll flag for admin to move the suspension date. No point is tying up the market for months when the trial isn't going to even start until November 16th.
