Who will win the Earth vs. Space chess match that began on September 29?
Background: On September 29, 2008, a unique chess game began. Chess afficionado Greg Chamitoff represented the other two intelligent beings (that we know of) in space in a game of chess against the entire Earth. Chamitoff, an astronaut aboard the International Space Station, is playing the white pieces.
The Earth, playing black, is a combination of the kindergarten through third grade US Chess Championship team, its teammates from the chess club at the Stevenson Elementary School in Bellevue, Washington, and the public. The children select four possible moves. Then the public will vote on the winning move. The game will only be played on weekdays.
The game resumed in January 2009 with Greg playing from Johnson Space Center in Houston. (Greg will also complete six other chess matches that he began in space. These matches were played in control centers around the world.)
If the match does not finish before Chamitoff returns to space, this market will settle as 'Draw.'
