Amidst rumors of Twitter being acquired by Google, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone on Friday suggested that the micro-blogging site was in talks with the search engine, but stressed that Twitter wants to remain an independent company.
"It should come as no surprise that Twitter engages in discussions with other companies regularly and on a variety of subjects," Stone wrote in a blog post titled "Sometimes We Talk."
Stone did not elaborate on specific companies or topics discussed, but noted that the goal of Twitter "is to build a profitable, independent company."
He addressed the rumors after waking up to an inbox that was "flooded" with inquiries about a possible Google-Twitter matchup.
