Will the Cops who Block Neighbors from Trying to Rescue Family From Fatal Fire be fired?
No reports indicate the officers were fired
Background:>
A pregnant British woman, her husband and their 3-year-old son were killed in a house fire early Sunday as police who arrived before the fire brigade prevented neighbors from trying to save them.
“Please save my kids," the woman screamed from a bedroom window and neighbors tried to help but were beaten back by flames and were told by police not to attempt a rescue.
By the time firefighters got into the house in Doncaster, Michelle Colly, 25, her husband, Mark, 29, and son, Louis, 3, were dead. Their daughter, Sophie, 5, was taken to hospital and believed to be critically ill.
“It was the most harrowing thing I have ever witnessed. Michelle was at the bedroom window yelling, ‘Please save my kids’ and we wanted to help but the police were pushing us back and not allowing us near," said Davey Davis, 38, a friend of the family. "We were willing to risk our lives to save those kiddies but the police wouldn’t let us."
“Tempers were running very high, particularly with the women who were there, but the police were just saying we have to wait for the fire brigade because of health and safety."

Another disgusting story along the same lines is at this link: http://www.windsofchange.net/archives/007927.html I won't copy any of the article here because it makes me mad, but suffice to say, let's keep our sense of what is right, along with being willing to take the initiative to do something about it.
Given that "neighbours tried to help but were beaten back by flames," it seems to make sense to wait for the fire service
While this is a tragic story, I do not fault the police in this scenario. The cops arrive on scene with the intention to minimize injury to as many people as possible. They do not have the proper gear to rush into a burning building and know that firefighters are on the way. If they allow anybody to enter the burning building and those people are injured, burned or killed then the responsibility of their actions falls onto the city and the police department that let them enter a burning building.
With that kind of liability, a lawsuit is sure to follow. In fact, I would wager that such a lawsuit has occurred in the past, prompting the procedure and guidelines that the police follow today.
I would never want to be in that position - where you need / want to help someone, but cannot.
Especially like this story, where lives were lost.
