Will the Cops who Block Neighbors from Trying to Rescue Family From Fatal Fire be fired?

Settled as No

No reports indicate the officers were fired

Background:

Background: Cops Block Neighbors Trying to Rescue Family From Fatal Fire
A pregnant British woman, her husband and their 3-year-old son were killed in a house fire early Sunday as police who arrived before the fire brigade prevented neighbors from trying to save them.

“Please save my kids," the woman screamed from a bedroom window and neighbors tried to help but were beaten back by flames and were told by police not to attempt a rescue.

By the time firefighters got into the house in Doncaster, Michelle Colly, 25, her husband, Mark, 29, and son, Louis, 3, were dead. Their daughter, Sophie, 5, was taken to hospital and believed to be critically ill.

“It was the most harrowing thing I have ever witnessed. Michelle was at the bedroom window yelling, ‘Please save my kids’ and we wanted to help but the police were pushing us back and not allowing us near," said Davey Davis, 38, a friend of the family. "We were willing to risk our lives to save those kiddies but the police wouldn’t let us."
“Tempers were running very high, particularly with the women who were there, but the police were just saying we have to wait for the fire brigade because of health and safety."

They were just following their own guidelines. Of course they won't be fired.

How can you just listen to people scream for help and not help them?

That is so disturbing. In my opinion based on experience, this type of thing is what happens when a people expect the government to do everything.

Another disgusting story along the same lines is at this link: http://www.windsofchange.net/archives/007927.html I won't copy any of the article here because it makes me mad, but suffice to say, let's keep our sense of what is right, along with being willing to take the initiative to do something about it.

@blacksoapman: if the police had let the neighbours go into the house and the neighbours had died, who would you have blamed then?
Given that "neighbours tried to help but were beaten back by flames," it seems to make sense to wait for the fire service

If the Queen was yelling out a window of Buckingham Palace they would not hold people back and saying wait for the brigade!!!!

As for the Queen in Buckingham Palace, she would have people already inside to assist her in getting to safety.

While this is a tragic story, I do not fault the police in this scenario. The cops arrive on scene with the intention to minimize injury to as many people as possible. They do not have the proper gear to rush into a burning building and know that firefighters are on the way. If they allow anybody to enter the burning building and those people are injured, burned or killed then the responsibility of their actions falls onto the city and the police department that let them enter a burning building.

With that kind of liability, a lawsuit is sure to follow. In fact, I would wager that such a lawsuit has occurred in the past, prompting the procedure and guidelines that the police follow today.

Have a good point Chatarra this story is just sad they need Liability Waiver Forms on hand then so people can sign and have at it I just know the feeling of not being able to help someone so I have my own issues with this story part of my wish I never found it my feeling will past it's just life I guess

BlackSoapMan,
I would never want to be in that position - where you need / want to help someone, but cannot.
Especially like this story, where lives were lost.
