
Will Apa summit Mount Everest (for the 20th time) before June 1, 2010?
Background: At about 8:00 am on May 21, 2009, Apa Sherpa summitted Mount Everest for the 19th time. The next highest total was 16 at the start of the spring climbing season.
Apa completed his latest summit as a member of Eco Everest Expedition. Expedition members retrieved approximately 5,000 kilograms of garbage from the mountain.
The expedition had its share of failure. A high altitude climber died in an avalanche. Two other members did not reach the summit.
Apa is believed to be 49 years old. He was born in Thame, Nepal, but now lives in the USA.
