Will Obama accept Iran's Ahmadinejad challenge to debate at UN in September?

Settled as No

Didn't happen...

Background:

Background: Iran's Ahmadinejad wants to debate Obama at UN
May 25 08:34 AM US/Eastern

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is calling for a face-to-face debate with his American counterpart Barack Obama at the United Nations.
The offer by Ahmadinejad came at news conference Monday as he steps up his campaign for his re-election in the June 12 presidential vote.
If returned to office, Ahmadinejad says he wants to meet Obama during the U.N. General Assembly in September to debate "world issues and the way toward peace."
Ahmadinejad is in a four-way race against a fellow hard-liner and two pro-reform candidates.
The campaign has grown more bitter in recent days with reformists accusing authorities of trying to undercut their strength by blocking the social networking site Facebook.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.
I could not find a specific date for UN General Assembly to meet in September. If Ahmadinejad loses next election, then this question would need to be voided. I would like for this question to be settled as an event (or lack of one) rather than settled by time frame, because the calendar or schedule for the UN General Assembly may be changed based on world events.

Category Editor Clarirication: By creator request, this market will be suspended upon any announcement by the White House that a debate absolutely will or absolutely will not take place. Settlement, however, won't take place until the General Assembly has actually finished meeting.

Just to be sure, we're talking an open debate, right? Not some behind-the-scenes or casual talk between the two that happens to be at the U.N. ?

As I understand the article, the challenge was issued as an open debate in front of the U.N. This would NOT include a private conversation that occurred behind the scenes or some casual talk between 2 leaders held somewhere else other than the U.N.

i flagged asking how the below will be handled.

what if the press ask obama and he says no he won't debate. does the question settle then or do we wait till after the U.N. meeting takes place? i'm guessing it won't suspend if obama says no he won't debate him at the U.N. the question might be suspended for months. could you please clarify how that will be handled?

I have requested that the question be suspended upon announcement that Obama will not debate Ahmadinejad,
but then actually wait till the General Assembly meets before final settlement, in case the outcome changes.
This would prevent people who are wagering on this question
from pulling their money in droves and skewing the outcome of the wager.

I hope this is an acceptable procedure. It does require an extra step (suspension)
and I believe that the Hubdub editors are already overworked with settlement details.

My thanks in advance for the efforts and hidden details that make this site work.
