Which will be the No. 2 film at the U.S. box office the weekend of June 12-14, 2009?

Settled as Up

1 1 The Hangover WB $32,794,387 -27.1% 3,355 +86 $9,775 $104,768,489 $35 2
2 2 Up BV $30,762,280 -30.3% 3,886 +68 $7,916 $187,425,989 $175 3
3 N The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 Sony $23,373,102 - 3,074 - $7,603 $23,373,102 $100 1

Background:

Background: A remake, "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," looks like it could be the top movie at the U.S. box office this weekend, but it hasn't been getting much buzz, so there's no guarantee. If it is indeed No. 1, the contest for the No. 2 spot could end up being between "Up" and "The Hangover," which battled it out for the top spot the previous weekend. Or one could imagine that another newcomer, "Imagine That," although not a likely weekend winner, will be a strong contender as well for the No. 2 spot.

Note that this prediction, unlike most box office contests, is for the No. 2 finisher.

Why is Imagine That getting no love in this market? I mean, it's only playing on 200 screens less than Pelham and has Eddie Murphy in it. Plus Up and Hangover will have been out for at least a week at this time. We'll see though!

I watched Hangover last weekend and thought it was so funny! My kids are begging me to buy it when it comes out on video!

When i wrote the question, I thought that "Pelham" would be a shoo-in for the No. 1 spot, so I wrote the question for No. 2 to make it more interesting. But now I'm not so sure what will be No. 1. "Hangover" has had incredible weekday numbers (on par with "Star Trek"), so the key is how much more business "Up" will get from the family market on the weekend.

@Jennie - I saw your $500 bet on Hangover and couldn't control myself & put $500 on UP. I don't bet that high, but there I was. I may have to thank you for a nice little profit. I won't count on it until the finals come in.
