Swine Flu: Will any 2009 NRL matches be called off as a result?

Settled as No

We've heard no reports of any NRL matches being called on account of A/H1N1...

Background:

Background: Swine flu appears to have weaseled its way into the NRL, with one of the Queensland State of Origin players confirmed last week, and now a number of Brisbane Broncos players in quarantine, one suffering flu like symptoms. Team mgmt have said that if any test come back positive, the whole squad, including under 20s will go into quarantine, and the game is unlikely to go ahead.

Even if this game proceeds, with Swine Flu spreading person to person in Australia, it is possible that other matches may be cancelled later in the season...you reckon?

Even though I've set suspend date for the end of the season, it is possible this one could settle as early as tomorrow, with the results of current testing underway on some of the broncos players.

Just an update, tests on the Broncos players are likely due back in a couple of hours. The NRL is considering pushing the Broncos game back a couple of days which wouldn't count as a cancellation. Of course if the tests come back positive, I still suspect the game will be cancelled.

So Karmichael Hunt has been confirmed as having swine flu, but will still play in tonites game, which the NRL has said must go ahead. The Broncos have subsequently broken quarantine to train, and are going off Tamiflu as they think its giving them side effects...

Given that swine flu is now spreading extensively thru both Australia and NZ, and we've basically stopped testing for it, I would say as a hint that this has now become extremely unlikely...
