How high will gas prices go this summer in the US?

Settled as Highest gas price is between $2.700 to $2.749

$2.700 was the magic number, as that was the price reported on 08/10 ($2.700)

Was $2.61 the week before and $2.691 the week after...and that was as high as it got!

Background:

Background: As summer is heating up, so are the prices at the gas pumps. We've already seen quite an increase, and actually summer isn't even here yet.

So how high will summertime gas prices go this year?

We'll be measuring data from the USEIA, United States Energy Information Agency, which is released every Monday. Prices tracked for this question will be those from June 22, the first report of actual summer through the report for September 21, the last day of summer and also a reporting date. Prices used will be those for 'Gasoline-All Grades" which takes into consideration all levels and formulations of gasoline. This price will be somewhat higher than that released daily by sources such as AAA, since it does include all grades, but it is easily to research on a weekly basis.

The question will suspend on Labor Day, although settlement can't be positively made for a few day to come. Labor Day may be when the peak is over, unless market conditions warrant other increases.

So play this question while you're home on Staycation this summer.

BTW...This week the EIA price is: $2.673
LAST SUMMER THIS WEEK IT WAS: $4.090

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news sources or from results released by the EIA.

Highest EIA price actually reached $2.743 on June 22nd, but it is in the same settlement bracket as the stated settlement of $2.70 on August 10th.

Yep, you are so right...I must have missed the late June date when looking at the charts...the 6/22 date was the first one eligible to be used for this question, and it WAS the high point of the summer.

Thanks for the sharp eyes!
