Settlement requested Mon 20th Jul 7:05am PST by nanotube: The original route for the speed rail project was supposed to link Nice to Aix-En-Provence, birth place of Paul Cézanne. It was feared that the vines and olive trees of Mont Sainte-Victoire made famous by the artist could be grubbed up to make way for a new TGV line. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/12/railway-cezanne-mont-sainte-victoire

Fortunately, the line route has been modified and now goes though the coastline via Toulan and Marseille as show here http://thetransportpolitic.com/2009/07/01/france-approves-route-for-marseille-nice-tgv/

2009/07/19: I'm trying to settle this, but the news link provided is obsolete, and the lack of details is making it difficult to find out anything specific. I've written to the author, and am awaiting a response.

Thanks for the link, nanotube. My question now is whether that is indeed the HSR route asked about in the original question.

(This is one of the reasons why so many times we ask for more background details than just a URL or two...)
