Will North Korea have a Taepodong-2 missile land within a 500 mile radius of the Hawaii Islands ?

Background: WASHINGTON -- U.S. Defence Secretary Robert Gates says he is positioning defences near Hawaii just in case North Korea fires a missile across the Pacific toward the U.S. island state.

Gates says he has sent the military's ground-based mobile missile system to Hawaii and positioned a radar system nearby. Together the systems theoretically could detect and shoot down a North Korean missile if it came to that.

Gates says the U.S. is watching the North's moves very closely.

The way I interpret this, if the missile or any part of it makes first contact with ground or water for any reason--whether it was shot down, or it suffered a failure, or it was actually targeted thusly--within 500 statute miles of the recognized boundaries of the state of Hawai'i, this will settle as 'Yes'.

Meaning that if it is shot down--by the U.S,. or any other nation's military--and all or pieces of it fall withing the 500 statute mile boundary, this will settle as 'Yes'.
