Will Afghanistan charge any member of the Obama administration with war crimes?

Background: A U.S. warplane failed to follow all operational rules in a complex battle in Afghanistan last month that killed an estimated 26 civilians and 78 Taliban fighters, the U.S. military concluded in a report released today.

Local Afghan officials have said as many as 140 people were killed.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said the accidental killing of civilians in Afghanistan has become one of the military's greatest strategic problems in the faltering war.

Well, if no one has the guts to toss Bush. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft and the rest into the darkest, dankest corner of some prison for their part in the lie-based killing of thousands of American troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis, I doubt anyone will be upset enough by the very unfortunate, very accidental, and very much apologized-for deaths of several dozen non-combatant Afghanis. Yeah, some Republican congressperson may try to goad Afghan into filing a war crimes complaint, but the heads at the faltering and fading GOP will quickly put an end to that; they've their own necks to worry about...

Obama administration admits murders, directs new general to conduct war with less death...

Claims that forces involved in the battle were sufficiently sure of their targets and believed that civilians would not be injured when they fired, but admits inability to discern the presence of civilians..

Administration must improve their "ability to get its side of the story in front of Afghans faster..."

The administration plans to use thousands of new U.S. lives deploying in Afghanistan to lessen the reliance on airstrikes, in a war commanders have called a stalemate at best.
