Is A/H1N1 ("Swine Flu") really the "Fast Food French Fry Flu"?

Background:

So maybe it was these and not the poor little pigs after all?

Was the A/H1N1 (aka "swine flu") pandemic caused by...french fries?

Some researchers in Russia have made a link between the H1N1 flu and the French fries that are sold in American (and other Western Hemisphere) fast food restaurants. A report released by those researchers says that scientists from Russia’s Ministry of Health are warning in a secret report to Prime Minister Putin that they have discovered a ‘critical link’ between the H1N1 influenza (Swine Flu) virus and genetically modified amylopectin potatoes that are consumed in massive quantities nearly exclusively by Westerners and sold in fast food restaurants as French Fries.

According to the report, the protease enzyme (the enzyme that begins the digestion of proteins) of the potatoes in question has been altered to make them more hardy and less vulnerable to the Potato virus X, a dangerous plant disease that can cause devastating losses of potato crops. This genetic change causes an “explosive” replication of the H1N1 influenza virus.

This proposed link between the A/H1N1 virus and French fries would explain why a vast number of cases of the virus are common to the young. A recent US News and World Report article states that, of the 5,000 confirmed and more than 100,000 probable cases of swine flu in the U.S., the average age of infected people is 15; two thirds are younger than 1...and the youngest are, by far, the largest consumers of fast food french fries. In addition, the countries that are reporting large numbers of H1N1 cases are those countries that grow these genetically modified potatoes: the US, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, and Chile, a country that grows large quantities of potatoes for the US. Large countries that do not allow planting of genetically modified potatoes, such as Russia, China, and India, report few H1N1 cases.

So...will it turn out that Ronald McDonald is really to blame?

Settlement details:This market will settle if/when the World Health Organization (WHO) releases the results of its pandemic investigation. If genetically-modified potatoes are implicated even in part, this will settle as 'Yes'. If the report either explicitly rules out GM potatoes, doesn't mention them, or states that the results are inconclusive, this will settle as 'No'.

This market should remain open until the WHO releases its findings, which may take quite some time. If there's no answer by the suspend date, the suspend date should be moved until such a report is released.

Well isn't this a mind blower? Of course I am hoping beyond all hope this IS true, but knowing what I know, I fully expect the WHO and all Gov't bodies to fully cave to pressure to bury this if it is.

Funny...I'd have been looking more at GMO corn if you'd asked me what the new evil was....but I'll take what I can get. This would be a fantastic finding with which to launch a major battle on McDonalds and all fast food (which as a mass buying industry has played a major part in what's happened in our food safety declining over the last 30 years).
Not to mention the taint put on the GMO industry.

This is the best Q ever sqlman, imo.

It may be just because it's lunchtime, but that photo makes we want to grind on some black pepper, pour a bunch of ketchup on the side, and dig in, influenza be damned... :-)
