Will FOX NEWS misidentify the Political Party of an adulterous Politician again this year?

Background: When does an embattled Republican suddenly become an embattled Democrat? When Fox News is covering him, of course.

The network known for its conservative leaning ran footage of Mark Sanford admitting to an extramarital affair on Wednesday with a Chyron identifying the South Carolina Republican -- near tears -- as a D, for Democrat.

Media Matters has the screen grab on its site and notes that Fox News later changed Sanford's party affiliation to Republican.

But it's also worth adding that this is not the first time the network has misidentified a GOPer in the midst of acknowledging misconduct. When former congressman Mark Foley admitted to having problems with alcoholism -- after reports that he had behaved inappropriately with congressional pages -- Fox News also identified him as a Democrat.

n the wake of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s admission to having an affair, evening and morning newscasts on NBC, CBS, and ABC all immediately identified him as a Republican. In contrast, in March of last year, the networks rarely identified disgraced New York Governor Eliot Spitzer as a Democrat in the wake of his affair with a prostitute.

In a 2008 study of evening and morning network newscasts following the Spitzer scandal, NewsBusters’ Rich Noyes found that within the first week of news coverage Spitzer was only identified as a Democrat 20% of the time. However, within the first 24 hours of Sanford’s confession to having an affair, he was identified as a Republican 100% of the time, during coverage on all the networks.

uh...ahem....cept on Fox who KNEW he was a Republican yet initially mislabeled him a Democrat.

And the REASON we focus on this is because THAT party plays holier than thou and consistently makes statements about the 'godless, immoral heathens' that exist OUTSIDE their family values party.

There's a word for it and the word is HYPOCRISY. Chew on that, erik.

And then there is the registered Democrat, James W. Von Brunn, who shot the security guard at the holocaust museum and the media tries to link with the right wing somehow, despite abundance of evidence to the contrary.

Noteworthy from Friday night's broadcast network evening newscasts which, a day after his death, spent 95 percent of their air time on Michael Jackson -- all but 1:03 of ABC's approximate 22 minutes was devoted to Jackson, all but 34 seconds of CBS and all but 1:22 of NBC, for 2:59, less than three minutes in total for all news beyond Jackson:

♦ Only ABC's World News reported how Monica Conyers, a Detroit city councilwoman married to powerful U.S. House Democrat John Conyers, pled guilty to accepting bribes. But anchor Charles Gibson, who on Wednesday night made sure to identify Mark Sanford as “a rising star in the Republican Party,” failed to name the party affiliation for either Monica Conyers or John Conyers, and neither did any on-screen graphic. Speaking of Detroit, last year, when Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with felonies, Gibson (as well as the CBS and NBC anchors) didn't consider Kilpatrick's party worth mentioning.

C2R,
I hope you will post more questions about media bias in general.
(On FOX and all other networks too)
It is a very fertile ground for Hubdub questions and will be enlightening to those with an open mind.

Chatarra....I don't know if you caught Jon Stewart hammering ALL 3 of the big, fat corporate slaves in action but if you haven't, check it out here:http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=229026&title=%22i%22-on-News

And I concur...they're ALL guilty of peddling crap. I just happen to find Fox willing to go farther 'out there' than anyone else.
