Will the GOP Gov. Sanford or his wife file for divorce by Thanksgiving?
Background: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has returned and told a local paper that he was in Argentina, not on the Appalachian Trail.
Gov. Mark Sanford arrived in the Hartsville-Jackson International Airport Wednesday morning, having wrapped up a seven-day visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, he said. Sanford said he had not been hiking along the Appalachian Trail, as his staff said in a Tuesday statement to the media.
Sanford, in an exclusive interview with The State Media Company, said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country to recharge after a difficult legislative session in which he battled with lawmakers over how to spend federal stimulus money.
Sanford told the paper that he didn't know why his staff told reporters he was on the Appalachian Trail. Later he said that "in fairness to his staff" he had told them he might go hiking before he disappeared.
Sanford was last seen at work Thursday. On Monday, a state legislator raised questions about where he was after hearing reports from security officials that the governor could not be contacted and his whereabouts were unknown. The governor's wife, Jenny Sanford, told The Associated Press she had not seen him since Thursday but was not concerned because he'd told her he wanted to get away and do some writing.
But after an impromtu trip, where he was totally out of contact with his wife for nearly a week, the Gov. returned to confess publicly about his affair with an Argentine woman. Evidently his wife already knew of the affair and they were already separated. Will either of them move to make it permanent?
Settlement date is fixed. Thanksgiving this year is on Nov. 26th.

Jenny Sanford announced she is moving with her four sons and will no longer live in the South Carolina Governor's mansion, according to The State. Gov. Mark Sanford (R) "later issued a statement saying he stood by the decision and that it was best for the family's reconciliation process and for the boys in the coming school year." The Sanfords have been trying to work on their marriage since Gov. Sanford admitted a yearlong extramarital affair in June with an Argentine woman.
