Background: Former U.S. lawmaker and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney remained in an Israeli prison Thursday after refusing to sign a deportation form that she says is self-incriminating.

In a press release from the Green Party, McKinney said the form states that the Spirit of Humanity, a Greek-flagged relief boat carrying 21 activists, medical supplies, cement, olive trees and children's toys en route to Gaza, was violating the Israeli blockade and trespassing the country's territorial waters.

"We were in international waters on a boat delivering humanitarian aid to people in Gaza when the Israeli Navy ships surrounded us and illegally threatened us, dismantled our navigation equipment, boarded and confiscated the ship," she said in a statement, adding that they were immediately taken into custody.

"Immigration officials in Israel said they did not want to keep us, but we remain imprisoned," she said.

"State Department and White House officials have not effected our release or taken a strong public stance to condemn the illegal actions of the Israeli Navy of enforcing a blockade of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians of Gaza, a blockade that has been condemned by President Obama."

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor has said Israel was planning to free the crew and passengers.

"Nobody wants to keep them here," he said earlier this week. "They will be released as soon as they are checked."

But so far, only two activists have been released -- both Israeli citizens. The others are still being held in Givon prison in Ramla, Israel.

Israeli authorities will hold the remaining activists in the prison for three more days before the government decides to release them or continue to detain them, the Green Party release said.

While it was the second time in a year that McKinney has been detained by Israel.
Time zone that counts for settlement is Israeli time.

Remember Cynthia McKinney? She's the nutjob former Atlanta congresswoman who lost her re-election primary in 2002, came back to reclaim her seat when it opened again in 2004, had an altercation with a Capitol Police officer who didn't recognize her, lost another primary in 2006, and was the Green Party nominee for president in 2008. Her father, who lost his state legislative seat in the same 2002 primary, famously blamed their losses on the "J-E-W-S."

Now, she has turned up in, of all places, I-S-R-A-E-L, as the Associated Press reports:

The Israeli navy intercepted a ship carrying foreign peace activists trying to break a blockade of Gaza on Tuesday and forced it to sail to an Israeli port, the military said. . . .

The 20 passengers include former U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire and other activists from Britain, Ireland, Bahrain and Jamaica.

The ship was flying a Greek flag, but no Greek citizens were aboard. The Greek government issued a statement saying it sent a message to Israel demanding that it release the ship, crew and passengers.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said Israel was planning to free the crew and passengers. "Nobody wants to keep them here," he said.

Mr. Palmor, we can understand your position, but couldn't you at least hang on to McKinney? Nobody wants her here, either.

God bless Cynthia McKinney. I'm betting her Dad was just being honest when he made that statement. And Cynthia is IN Israel because they S-N-A-T-C-H-E-D her off a boat. Israel is such a POS.

I vote they should keep her, but I doubt they will for long enough.

Remember Israel is above the law. They can do whatever they want and God help the Politician who goes against AIPAC's will. Can you imagine what would happen if Iran snatched a former Congressman/woman from International Waters? The Main Stream Media would exonerate Obama for not nuking Iran.
