Which religion will turn the most unbelievers into devotees of their own faith?

Settled as TV show cancelled

Show appears to have been cancelled during early planning stages. It did seem too outrageous to air, but who knows what they get to show on Turkish television!

Background:

Background: A new show set to grace Turkish television screens will see a Muslim imam, a Christian priest, a Jewish rabbi and a Buddhist monk competing to turn 10 unbelievers into devotees of their own faith each week.

The show, "Tövbekarlar Yarışıyor," which can be roughly translated as "Penitents Compete," will appear on Kanal T starting in early September. The imam, priest, rabbi and monk will try to convert at least one person in every show.

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion - several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn't straight. He has made a graveyard of the globe in trying his honest best to smooth his brother's path to happiness and heaven. ~Mark Twain

The TV show - and your question - what an idea! Competitive religious conversion - are there prizes?

I'm certainly looking forward to the results. Come on the fairweather Jews!

"Are their prizes?" ...too funny. I'm guessing yes....like maybe they get a bigger house in a better neighborhood in the afterlife, or next life if the Buddhist wins.

But better yet is that Christianity and Judaism combined don't touch where the market is driving Islam and Buddhism. While I'm not wild bout Islam either, I'm glad the Judeo/Christian folks are getting their asses whipped statistically.

I don't think that Mark Twain was right about us being 'religious' beings. Spiritual for certain but the ones that are the most religious sure seem the least spiritual, hence a rich history of religious wars.

‘I’m an atheist, get me outta here!’

oh, yes, prizes:
"The prize for converts will be a pilgrimage to a holy site of their chosen religion -- Mecca for Muslims, the Vatican for Christians, Jerusalem for Jews and Tibet for Buddhists."
"We are giving the biggest prize in the world, the gift of belief in God," Kanal T chief executive Seyhan Soylu told Reuters.
Some 200 people have so far applied to take part in the show and the 10 contestants will be chosen next month.
A team of theologians will ensure that the atheists are truly non-believers and are not just seeking fame or a free holiday.

Religion is a mental illness, a neurosis. It preys upon the feeble-minded and naive among us. Which sadly makes up the majority of us. But hey! it's a miracle that we managed to make it this far. If you would have given me a profile outlining mans' innate appetite for self-destruction I'd have written it off prematurely. Kudos! humanity. Here's to another 20 more years of existence! Ciao

@mungo Great question, that would be important to know. I think their upbringing would have a lot to do with their predisposed thoughts regarding the different religions. I would think they would be interested in learning about religions that they are not familiar w/ rather than religions they have grown up around. According to Wikipedia more than 99% of population in Turkey is Muslim.

AFAIK it ain't an international show, and as such, it has only local contestants - thus from Turkey.

New Christian converts win a trip to the VATICAN???? No wonder their doing so poorly.

@c2r - The Vatican is gorgeous. Some really stunning architecture and of course, the Sistine Chapel is pretty awesome too. Of course, I think travel wise, I'd much rather be Buddhist.

I can't find anything in the news to indicate this show (that was supposed to air in September) has aired yet, has been rescheduled or has been cancelled. Has anyone else heard anything?

What if no mainstream news source reports it's been cancelled?
According to the discussion here, it has been cancelled -
