OHIO: Will the OGT win their appeal against Monsanto for truth in labeling?

Background: Two months after a federal court in Ohio has ruled that dairies cannot legally label their milk "hormone free," "rBST-free" or otherwise clearly tell consumers that they aren't pumping up their cows with synthetic hormones, the Organic Trade Association has filed an appeal.

The April decision was a blow to truth-in-labeling advocates, a blow to consumers and a blow to organic farmers. It was a win for Monsanto, the agrichemical giant that prompted the lawsuit, and a win for Eli Lilly, which bought Monsanto's synthetic recombinant bovine growth hormones (known as rBST or rBGH) business a few months ago. The use of these hormones is banned throughout most other first world nations.

The other 4 states Monsanto had quietly lobbied to resist truth in labeling rejected the legislation. Only Ohio disallowed consumers the right to know if their Milk is from a cow being given the hormone.

It is a well documented fact that Milk from cows injected with the growth hormone rBGH/rBST will contain a far higher amount of pus and antibiotic residues.

Good for you dog. Please keep it up, it so pleases me to hear this.

For the rest of you that actually give a crap....pressure your lawmakers and if you live in Ohio please get involved. We've managed to fight off Monsanto's attempt to do the same thing just by breathing non stop fire down the lawmakers throats and sending our own lobbyists in, bringing our own experts in....the consumers are winning this battle thru sheer pressure but it's a hard and slow battle.

Monsanto knows the burden they place on Ohio dairy farmers with labeling costs for milk sold within the state and that that is shipped out.
They know the Dairies will suffer monetarily this way and perhaps even opt to simply NOT label the rBST free milk because of this. And we have a RIGHT to know what we are consuming so we can make informed choices.
