Did you know that at least seven countries being a transsexual woman will get you executed? And that in a dozen more, the authorities will not bother to investigate their deaths even if it's not a government sanctioned execution? Or that in most of the world, transsexual women have no legal protection from discrimination, meaning they are routinely harassed and denied legal work, healthcare and housing? What options would YOU have for survival if you were persona non grata in most of the world, a criminal just for existing, a hated member of an untouchable class?
This whole question is offensive and wrong. Google transphobia and trans-misogyny. The same media attitude that says that any female celebrity who doesn't fit neatly into cultural norms for a proper lady must not really be a woman is the attitude which perpetuates violence and discrimination against all women and transsexual women especially. Just last month a website was taken down by Blogger for posting photos and other personal information about transsexual women without their knowledge and encouraging others to snap photos and send them in too, hoping to "out" as many as possible.
This witch hunt degrades and dehumanizes celebrities and private individuals alike.
There's also a legal argument to be made that every "yes" bet on this question is defamatory and libelous.
But "Lady Gaga" is a public person. If you decide to start a international music career, you're sure to be target of any such media. just take a look at the life of Michael Jackson, as an example.
The case "Lady Gaga" has gone to be the question: Is she male now?

In the same way we can trace a direct line between subtler forms of racism and what happened to Henry Louis Gates or Omar Edwards, we can see that the natural end of this type of witch hunt trying to out transsexual women is the loss of safety for those women.
It's a messed up question and I doubt the Hubdub community would tolerate it if it were any other minority group.
I'm gay, so I can't speak directly for trans people, but there are always questions about public figures that we wouldn't tolerate if asked about private citizens. I personally don't think this is offensive or irrelevant any more than questions of the sexual orientation of Rock Hudson or Ellen Degeneres once were.
Finding out that she was born male could potentially prove helpful to other transgender people who suffer discrimination over such genuine irrelevance as whether original gender is a valid reason to deny someone a job! Having an 'out' transgender celebrity could help others by changing a few transphobic bigots' opinions.
Or... it could make matters worse. If I were in her pumps and had her talent and ambition, I might go for the big bucks now to achieve stardom and financial security then, after I've succeeded, 'out' myself to throw it in the face of any right-wing bigots who had previously praised me but now condemn me after the outing... further proving that it should never have
been an issue!
However, it would be much more offensive to discover that a starlet without either condition has deliberately courted controversy at the expense of those who do have the condition.
Therefore, out of principle and solidarity, I will not be participating in this market.
