Background:>
Background: The enlarged Lloyds Banking Group, 43% owned by the Britih Taxpayer, has recently announced 1/2 yearly losses for 2009 of £4 Billion, compared wih other banks like HSBC and Barclays who both made profits of approximately £3 Billion for the same 6 months. Lloyds have attributed this loss to bad debts, most of which it acquired when it bought HBOS, which when added to Lloyds own bad debts could total up to £13 Billion for the year.
Last year, Lloyds reported a 1/2 year profit of approximately £2.8 Billion, showing that it is a robust company with an ability to make money, and on its own has not been too exposed to toxic assets.
