Will Redbox win lawsuit against General Electric Co.'s Universal Pictures?

Background: Redbox, with kiosks in thousands of supermarkets, convenience stores and other locations, has been on a tear in recent months. This week, it announced it would expand its kiosks into more than 2,000 Kroger supermarkets within the next year.

Last year, Redbox sued General Electric Co.'s Universal Pictures after the studio told distributors not to make its movies available to Redbox. The lawsuit is awaiting a federal judge's decision in Delaware. Universal had demanded a 45-day delay before Redbox put its movies into kiosks. Redbox had refused to comply.http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/107480/fox-studio-trying-to-pull-new-dvds-from-redbox-kiosks

Clarification: If any event occurs resulting in Redbox not winning its case the market shall settle as no, this would include a out of court settlement.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

Hi cici-

The next time you go into a supermarket like Krogers or Wal-Mart take a look by the entrance/exit and see if there is a big red vending machine there with DVD's shown on the front. That's a Redbox.

Click here to learn a little more: http://arstechnica.com/media/news/2009/08/fox-joins-universals-war-on-redboxs-dvd-rental-kiosks.ars

I've been reading a lot about the Redbox/Sony/Universal/Blockbuster/Hollywood Video debate and what I think is about to happen is a new form of financial agreement will be drawn up. I don't see an option for that in this question.

Bucky - no Kroger in my world, altho I have heard of them. Walmart out in the sticks. All get from a vending machine is cash ATM. I haven't seen a vending machine in years. Do I live in a different world or what. DVD's in a vending machine, is this rental or for purchase? Why would Walmart do either??

Cici: Publix has vending machines with latest dvd's for $1.00 per day rental. It's cool you use a credit card, select your movie and off you go and return it the next day and they charge you $1.00 plus tax.

BSM - I'm with Netflix and love them dearly. We do have Blockbusters in my county, but none in my City. I'm beginning to think I'm deprived, not depraved. We used to have several video rental stores, but they're all gone. I do n't subscribe to HBO, or Showtime, or Starz. There are 2 Video XXX rental stores.

I guess it's not all bad, but I'd still be embarrassed to walk in.

Them XXX rental stores will always have a place in the video business you think people would get tired of looking at them we all know how they end just about LOL

@Cool, went to Publix, no video rentals. Looked up Redbox and 2 are at Walmarts, one in Cape Coral, and one in No. Ft Myers, and there is one at a Winn-Dixie.

@Cici. I guess you will have to come to Naples. The one in Shadowlawn across from the courthouse opened a few months ago (it was originally a publix, then an Albertson) and it has the video rental machine I mentioned. I was looking to day to see if I wanted to rent any movies; none appealed to me. Maybe I will make a trip to one of your XXX rental stores.
