Will Oracle sell Sun's hardware business to HP in 2009?

Background: While Oracle's Larry Ellison has made it no secret that he only wants Sun for its software, he has denied planning to sell off the outfit's hardware business. However a CNN source apparently has revealed that talks between Oracle and HP are going ahead.

Ellison didn't really want Sun's hardware business in the first place, and probably wants it even less now, particularly as it is not doing all that well and it makes the finances of the deal look less attractive.

However he has been putting on his best spin lately. Ellison said that he can use Sun's server business to build appliances custom-tuned to run Oracle software. However that doesn't seem to be such a great plan.

-- This article makes it appear that Oracle has no intention of selling off Sun's hardware business to HP. In fact, it appears that Oracle wants Sun for their hardware (SPARC & Solaris) as a perfect marriage for Oracle's software. ---

The Slashdot community has recently questioned what Oracle will do with Sun hardware if and when Oracle's acquisition of Sun closes. And it seems that speculation about the future of SPARC hardware has been common among Slashdot commenters for years. That said, it seems newsworthy that Oracle is going out of their way with some aggressive marketing directed at IBM to state clearly their plans to put more money than Sun does now into SPARC and Solaris."
