Of the top 10 2009 movies at the box office, how many will be nominated for a best-picture Oscar?
Background: When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences expanded the number of films eligible to be nominated for best picture from five to 10, it did so in part so that some of the more well-known films might end up as nominees, thus drawing more attention to the awards.
So the question is, will many blockbusters be nominated as an Oscar best picture? Or will the nominees be primarily less-popular films?
The top 10 movies at the box office will be based on the total domestic box office gross through Jan. 31, 2010. Currently, such as list can be found here:
