Update: Alleged Letterman Blackmailer Identified
By Brian Stelter
The “48 Hours” employee who is accused of attempting to extort money from David Letterman is Robert Halderman, also known as Joe, a 51-year-old Emmy Award-winning producer.

A CBS employee with knowledge of the case, who demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to speak by the network, confirmed Mr. Halderman’s role. A law enforcement official said Mr. Halderman would be arraigned today.

Mr. Halderman “has directed dozens of “48 Hours” documentaries, from the Winter Olympics to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001,” The New York Daily News reports.

According to Mr. Letterman, the “48 Hours” employee, whom he did not name, had signaled that he would write a screenplay and a book that would detail the host’s behavior.

One article I read said that Letterman's lawyer met Halderman at the Essex House hotel to discuss the terms of the extortion. Law enforcement officers were in the next room recording. Halderman allegedly said he wanted enough money so that he wouldn't have to work for the rest of his life.

If he's found guilty, he won't have to work for the rest of his life! lol
