Suspend date reached
Background:>
Background: The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the Producer Price Index for Finished Goods fell 0.6 % in September, after rising 1.7% in August, seasonally adjusted.
In 2008, the Producer Price Index ranged from + 1.5 in May to -2.7 in November. Much of this movement is, of course, tied to the economy as a whole and to the price of oil, since energy costs affect producer costs. So far this year, the numbers were as follows:
Jan: +0.8
Feb: +0.1
March: -1.2
April: + 0.3
May: + 0.2
June: + 1.8
July: -0.9
Aug: +1.7
Sept -0.6
How will the index change in October, 2009 as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (seasonally adjusted)?
Is deflation ahead? Results are reported in the middle of Nov.
