Will Billy Carter's gas station be recognized as a National Historic Landmark before Christmas?
Background: Remember Jimmy Carter, our best ex-president?
The National Park Service site honoring Carter may be doubled to include the Billy Carter Service Station museum.
CQPolitics.com reports that the Congressional Budget Office expects that adding 30 more acres to the current Carter presidential site would cost about $17 million over five years.
H.R.1471 claims the extra land "is needed to enhance visitor experience at the Site."
In the House of Representatives, H.R.1471 passed on a voice vote the 26th and was received in the Senate the 27th.
In the Senate, the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks is considering S.742.
Will this pass congress and be signed by the President before Christmas?
This action need not occur solely by way of H.R.1471 or S.742.
Settlement will be ‘Yes’ with the addition of the gas station to the National Park Service Site in Plains, GA by signature of the President to congressional legislation.
