Will a runoff election be held in Zimbabwe by May 23, 2008?

Settled as No

Announced today that run-off election is set for June 27th

Background:

The electorial body for Zimbabwe announced on Friday, May 2, that a runoff election would have to be held in the presidential contest between President Mugabe and primary challenger Tsvangirai. Tsvangirai got more votes than Mugabe, 47.9% to 43.2%, but since he did not get a majority a runoff is necessary. Zimbabwe law requires the runoff to be held within 21 days of the release of the election results.

"The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will set the date of the runoff, which should by law be held within 21 days of the result. But the electoral commission has the power to extend this and political observers say a 40-day period is likely."
