Will Hubdub continue to allow members with competing political agendas to post insulting questions as long as the questions are both plausible and would be newsworthy?

Voided

Cannot be settled objectively (despite settlement details, how could you match a rule change to competing political agendas?)

Background:

For Example:

When will Hillary divulge she has been driven to the "comfort of women" after all she has been through with Bill?
Will McCain reveal he has a regrettable penchant for auto-erotic asphyxiation so he can help others who "suffer in silence"?
Will Obama finally admit he has "had a thing" for hookers since playing in a recreational lacrosse league in college?

Settlement details: As indicated by a Hubdub rule change or stated guidance somewhere on the Hubdub.com web site. Should such rules or guidance already exist the settlement shall be determined at such time that Hubdub states they shall begin enforcing such or shall be more astute in their oversight of such. This question will settle at either the suspend time or at the time the rules of settlement transpire, whichever comes first.

but then, again, do we have "competing political agendas" or just different sides of the same politically dysfunctional coin?

just the different sides of the great dysfunctional coin we call American politics. God I can't wait until Nov. 5th than all the political ads will stop. it just get's crazier and crazier, it get's to the point you don't know what to believe any more, expecially with the media showing it bias (left or right) more and more each day.

Yes, it will be a sad day to see ole "W" leaving office (gags....throws up a little in his mouth....throws up a lot on keyboard.....hurls onto screen...hold on, i gotta clean this up!).....................................................but alas, another 8 years wasted, i mean another 8 GREAT years...for the economy, for the Iraqi's.... for the Military... for Al Queda, I mean BAD TERRORISTS, BAD... yes, whichever candidate we choose, I'm almost certain it will be more of the same....more "Missions Accomplished"... more profits for exxonmobil....more backroom deals for the Harvard Elite....more stacking of the Supreme Court based on one certain litmus test...yes, a cornucopia of yummy-good-big gubment, and huge ear marks.... another year of 2% interest rates because, hey, we can always print more money.... Sad, I almost hate to see the superficial "changing of the 'Guard'"..... Alas, all this talk of hope, change, ending war, lowering gas prices, lowering taxes for the not-so-elite...it just makes me want to vomit......Bleccchhhhh

We're all voting for the wrong people because they are ALL the wrong people. Regardless of political persuasion, who actually is truly proud of their elected official? I think most of us are voting for "Who Sucks The Least" (WSTL). Perhaps that would be a good name for a new party going by the same acronym: The We Suck The Least Party. They could pursue policies that only hurt us a little bit at a time.
posted 35 weeks ago
Unfortunately, most people would still join the "We just suck a little less" party....

Hilarious, tocm!!! I attributed my own "gags....throws up a little in his mouth....throws up a lot on keyboard.....hurls onto screen" to an overindulgence of Guinness and cheap vodka on another Friday night, only to realize it was a result of paying too much attention to American politics, and a practice prelude to November 5th. Thank God for Windex, bleach, and unreasonable hope! OOOOOh GOD! - I mixed Windex and bleach.......................

markov - I was kidding. I was trying to demonstrate that I see what you are getting at in a funny way.

I would hate to see the day when I have to filter through tons of Hubdub questions that are intended to make some sort of point (political or otherwise) just to get to the questions that are not going to be voided. I can see a day when the following questions get posted on Hubdub because the question itself will hit a large number of eyeballs...

Will the hapless, evil, NY Yankees beat the historical and noble Boston Red Sox by 20 runs tonight?

How many Hubdubbers will be watching tonight's episode of XXX (it it starts at 9PM, and tonight's episode will certainly be a "must-watch" because... (insert advertisement here)?

How many people have tried the new and improved (insert any product here)? It is just so much better than competators for the following reasons...

MY POINT IS THIS - I don't want to see question creation become a venue for every opinionated person to make their point, or for every marketer to sell their product. If the item in question is truly news related then certainly it is allowable.

unfortunly things will never change because the "regular guy" left or right can't even dream of running for president, because what is spent in political ads is more then most of us would make in a life time. but they all say the feel our pain, well until the govt. starts cutting back on waste and programs that don't work. it will always be statis quo. Oh yea even us "EVW" (evil right wingers) gag sometimes on both sides of the political line. The latest killer is the prevailing thought that increasing the gas tax will lower gas prices, boy that's a hoot. I mean they say the money will go into a fund to build new refineries. that's a joke, kind of like the moving of Social Security to the general fund would be good for the system. we all know how that all worked out.

you make an important point. and i think, going forward, as hubdub grows, you will have hubdub spammers posting advertisements here... i think that it is different than our poking nods to one view or another, especially the regular posters here, but it could affect the overall clutter of bad questions on hubdub, and perhaps we need a clearly defined code of honor... although some nights, i can't help but post drunken questions, and i hope you all forgive me my political indulgences... i never get angry (almost never) when my drunken questions are voided, but i have to say: Overall, the admins have done a really good job of screening questions, even if we don't always agree.... thanks, bc, for your forthought!

I am just making general comments, I don't want to engage in this candidate did this and this candidate did that, that could lead to bad feelings on both sides, because no matter what I say you won't change your mind and no matter what you say I won't change my mind, what needs to happen is compromise, the system is screwed up and until both sides get off their high horses and work for what is really for the good of all people, rich and poor, things will never change. to be honest I am more purple then red or blue, I lean red because I don't believe what I have worked so hard for should used for progams that have created a sense of entitlement life style. There have been times that I have voted blue because the red was way to far to the right and I have voted red because the blue was way to far to the left. yes Obama worked his way up, but how many (of all colors) are not able to work they way up because programs don't teach responsibilty and hard work can pay off. It just keeps them in the welfare state.

I ramble on, as I said in my first post, this is a fun place and we should all be able to agree to disagree (can't we all just get along)

Canada IS great, but we do have political ad (only they are poorly produced, and usually more funny than aggrevating). We rarely see negative ads. Negative ads usually reflect poorly on the party that wrote them.

After the friendly exchanges with my left and right-wing nut job friends on hubdub tonight, i have decided that it is more than a wagering on the news... it is a social networking site for the news-obsessed... small a group as we might be, we are larger than 6000 worldwide... and as we grow, we should use our "friends" system...already in place...solipses and all... to be able to "cluster" in our social circles... more than just "challenging" our friends... we should be able to "focus" on our core group of friends, as well as interact with the new folks coming in, and there will be many if we are successful... but i think we all see that this is a community that has been created out of a shared passion for news, even if we digress a little into "hubdubollywood"....

Thanks only to the activated charcoal I maintain in my right sock for just such an occasion I did not succumb to my reckless mixing of household cleaning agents. Cleanliness answers only to preparation. Had I suffered Hubdub induced passing, however, may it be known hereafter that I bequeath all of my H$ to my Hubdub friends, to be divided equally.

bcguelph admirably states: "I don't want to see question creation become a venue for every opinionated person to make their point, or for every marketer to sell their product."

It could not be more well stated and this is the very purpose of my question.

For what little it is worth, I find great value and truth in the perspectives of both sides of the political spectrum excepting only for the most unreasonably extreme elements of both, each of which tend toward playground name calling for lack of intellectual capacity. IMHO, politics should be driven by BOTH the mind and the heart, but never one only.

But, then again, never mix Windex and bleach, no matter how foul the screen.
posted 35 weeks ago
markov! nice to have you back, sorry about the commentary that caused your erupturous vomitting... i rather like playground name-calling, it makes more sense to me than these politically correct advertisements we pay so much money for.... call him a "black person" or her a "female dog", or him a " crispy salty thing for cheese to be consumed upon" if that's what you want to say... otherwise, we have to talk about some things of more consequence... and few americans seem to have the stomach for it... i, being from louisiana, and being a rabid liberal... am quite proud that we elected bobby jindal governor.. (an indian, not american indian, an INDIAN dude) governor... i like him, but we will hold him to his word the same that we would a "white" dude or a "black" dude, or a "dude" that was both, or neither...

well didn't quite leave yet but michael I am a Mom not a Dad, her Dad is not news junkie, political nut job that I am, to much time in the financial industry not now recovering 9 years stong in a nice quite non-profit, also am proud to say I did not vote for "diamond" Jim Doyle a "white" dude with "black" kids that he just trots out at election time, he has his hands so far in the indian "american" gaming industry it's not funny and the "wonderful" Tommy Thompson, wasn't much better. Wisconsin is a tax hell and it's not getting any better, only staying until the kid is out of college (still over a year away) and then we are talking about moving somewhere south, I hear Louisiana is real nice if you can avoid the bugs, the heat, the humidity, and every once in awhile hurricane.

And yes I agree this is also a social site, I have met with and talked with many wonderful people from around the world and some not so nice ones. With the site still being in beta, it will take awhile to work out all the bugs.

first off, let me say i am divorced, and unattached... that was for humorous effect...(the blackberry thing)... my dad lives in wisconsin, never been there... being bitten by a mosquito is not so bad, the heat is avoidable through the "mysteries of air conditioning", and taxes here are about the same as anywhere...for now... i work at a golf course, and a 6 foot alligator lives on hole 3...she is adorable, her babies should be quite the beggers... the humidity is actually good for your skin, but don't expect nice beaches... we produce a lot of oil, most of it offshore, and hurricane rita pretty much destroyed the coast... 50 years from now, we may have another as strong as her, but i won't be here anymore, so all is good...New Orleans is 3 hours away, Houston 2 and a half... and a flight to New York is pretty cheap... if it weren't so gosh-darn republican, i might enjoy the people more, but they are so christian... a fact that i cannot forgive them for...oh yea, churches and ministers make A LOT of money down here, but not from me...

tocm -

That "few americans seem to have the stomach for it" is both true and the cause of our suffering. Too cool you are from Louisiana as I have been most places South, but not there, and all the folks I met (Cajuns included) from such parts have been great friends to me. I was interested and impressed Bobby Jindal was elected your governor and watch with similar interest as to whether or not he will do as he said.

kasulked -

Though I hail from the ChiTown Burbs, just yonder the Cheddar Curtain, I too, suffer captive to poor state government and am considering moving South. Perhaps, though this time racially equitable, the South shall rise again with a few Yanks in their ranks.

...ah...the HubDubSpellCheckSupervisor has retired...I tried to protect the Oxford dictionary and her mother tongue, but that has failed hopelessly.

Perhaps we will soon have a programmable spellcheck on every page, or the admins could do their job and vet questions, OR -- wait for it -- the "powerusers" will vet it somehow. But count me out: I've done my time.

Meanwhile, an interesting question to put on hubdub would be: what is the official language of hubdub? (1) Spanglish, (2) Franglais, (3) The Queen's English, (4) The President's English, (5) All of the above, (6) An Original Hubdub Language, or (7) Other.

@tocm ... Dude, I'm a Christian, but a real one, haha, I mean that I am a believer in Jesus Christ, not some fanatical heal you by punchin' you in the face, throw my hands up and run around speaking in absurd dialect, send money to the big haired woman and her sleazy husband that has a personal jet, Bentley driving SOB's! ... The name "Christian" has been utterly destroyed in America and around most of the world, as genuine Christian's try our best to live as Christ lived by His grace, however, we fail miserably like all humanity :-/ ... So yeah, I totally hear what you are saying man, but yeah, I am a totally cool awesome kick ass truly amazing wonderful superb funny as pie hot sexy he man :-D Hahahaha okayyyy I'm done :-P

@ everyone else and TOCM too .... Truly this has been a hilarious at times and also tragic discussion! ... I being in Seattle, having lived in Las Vegas, Montana, Hawaii, Illinois, Wisconson, Minnesota, and Texas amongst other states, know that no matter where one goes, the government sucks! ... American politics are no different then ANY and ALL political systems have ever been in the history of mankind. I say this because I am a nut for not just news, but history too and especially economic history which inevitably means political history, therefore, I can say with all assurance that "There is NO hope!" ... Hahahaha, I hate to bum anyone out but there is an awesome saying, and it goes something like this: "Todays news is yesterdays news happening to new people." ... I prob just totally butchered that, but I think ya'll get the point. ...... I said ya'll cause I'm originally from Texas, so yeah :-D
I say there is no hope cause it is the truth. I voted Republican, nothing changed, I switched and voted Democrat, nothing changed, then here in Seattle I got fed up and voted for no one, and guess what? Nothing changed still! ... Amazing how no matter what SOB takes office, everything remains the same, just in new ways. Always corrupt, always self serving, always the rich getting richer and the poor being deceived into actually believing that these rich SOB's even give a rats caboose about the minimum wage or health care!
You look 50 years ago, supposedly the good ol days and we had out of control racism, war and economic trouble and lying politicians.
You look 150 years ago, we had slavery, war, economic trouble and lying politicians.
You look 275 years ago, we had war, economic trouble, and our politicians were the richest men on the continent and people were beheaded.
You look 500 years ago and kings were having people beheaded, politics were utterly corrupt and war prevailed.
You look 1,250 years ago, war prevailed, times were rough, slavery was worldwide.
You look 2,000 years ago, Rome ruled most of the world with total brutality, Christ was murdered, war prevailed, the poor were abused.
You look 3,500 years ago and Egypt ruled with brutality, corruption, slavery and evil.
You look back as far as mans records can be found and you see the same thing, brutality, corruption, oppression of the poor, rich getting richer.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Thus I declare again, there is no hope for politics in America! We will continue to get worse and worse until we as a nation collapse into memory and nothing more, just like ALL mighty nations in world history before us!

Again, the more things change, the more they stay the same ... If we fall, China will rise, or whoever, then they will fall and someone else will take over, and so on and so forth and in the mean time, corrupt politicians will promise the moon and still never deliver a rock, they will promise relief and will end up taking more and more and on and on we go.

So I woke up to a challenge and a running conversation of some 63 comments.....hate to miss a party....

To the original point...The administrators do a pretty good job, and these questions should be allowed, unless the nightmarish problems do begin to occur, then they can make the necessary adjustments....just like they did when they adjust the rules on predicting outcomes of TV shows because of possible spoiler sites...As Rodney King said, "Let's just all have fun"...isn't that right?

And to TOCM...kinda in the same neighborhood, Mississppi Gulf Coast, and used to live in Shreveport and New Orleans......
