When will Trail Rodge Road open?

Settled as TRR opens on Friday 5/23

http://www.coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080523/UPDATES01/80523040

Trail ridge opened at 11.30 Friday 23.

Background:

Each winter Trail Ridge Road - highway 34 through Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, the highest continuously paved road in the U.S. - closes due to snowfall. The NPS tries to get it reopened by the unofficial start of tourist season; Memorial Day weekend. Last year it opened on May 25th, the Friday before the spring holiday. I believe they have a new plow. This question will be suspended a week before the holiday weekend. When will Trail Ridge Road open this year?

Thanks for creating this question.
As a local, Trail Ridge Road is one of my favorite destinations.
I have photos posted here:
http://www.motorcyclemaniac.net/Pictures/TrailRidgeRoad/index.html

If interested, read my article
(excerpted from the July/August 2006 issue of Motorcycle Classics) about that road by clicking here: http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/touring-destination/2006-07-01/destinations-trail-ridge-road.aspx

P.S. Since there are active campgrounds inside of Rocky Mountain National Park, the gates do not close at night. For a really special experience, go to the top during July or August, when a full moon is expected and spend a couple of relaxing hours taking in all that Mother Nature has to offer.

Nice article! I am in Arvada & ride west on short trips regularly during the summer, myself.

Thanks for reading my article. I had a LOT of help from the editors to make it more interesting to read, but they left my name on the end of it, so I am absolutely thrilled to have an article in print.

Arvada is a nice part of the metro area. From Arvada riding west is good; riding east is bad. LOL. We are so lucky to live nearby the Rocky Mountains.

I lived in Denver for 48 years and thought I would probably live and die there. But we got fed up with C&C (Crime and Congestion) and moved to Loveland almost 3 years ago.

I wanted to add this article from Channel 7 news today:
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/16155547/detail.html
Snowplow crews clearing the highway over Independence Pass between Aspen and Leadville say the snow is the deepest they've seen it in 25 years. They've encountered drifts at least 7 feet deep so far and expect to plow through 20 foot-deep snow by the time they reach the summit, nearly 12,100 feet above sea level.
