bse closed Apr 30th at 17287.31 and opened on May 2nd at 17560.15 (it was closed in between)
nasdaq closed Apr 30th at 2412.80 and opened on May 1st at 2416.49

Is this question comparing May 30th close with Apr 30th close or with the first open day in May's opening price?

From reading the question I presume the author means percentage change from first open in May to last close in May. As you say BSE open was 17,560.15, and NASDAQ open was 2,416.49. I will put these in the background.
