Settled as Yes
Last week, a Democrat took away a Republican House seat in Louisiana. Is it Mississippi's turn next week? Mississippi is a very conservative state with strong Republican leanings. But next week there'll be an election held to replace newly appointed Senator Wicker who had held the seat. The Republican should be a shoo-in, but with the strength of the Democrats and strong anti-Republican feelings, there's actually a chance of the Democratic candidate, Travis Childers, winning. In fact, he came within a few hundred votes of winning the seat outright in an early vote, which made the runoff necessary. National Republicans are trying to focus on this race, even bringing in big guns like Chaney (no pun intended)to campaign for Greg Davis. Their involvment might actually hurt the GOP's chances as there's a lot of negativity associated with the Republicans and their strategy and tactics.
Plus, the winner of this race will have to run again, against the same opponents, for re-election in the November elections.
And if Childers wins, Democrats will have 3 of the 4 House seats in Mississippi.
