Yeah I tried to be fair with the starting figures. I am hopeful that this one is settled as NO.

Sadly our total is now up to 90 with the deaths of two soldiers in three days. :(

When I created this question I did not specify that it was Canadian SOLDIERS deaths only and therefore as of today the death toll of Canadians in Afghanistan is 92 with the deaths of two Canadian aid workers. One had duel citizenship with Canada and Britain:

I guess I lost count somewhere .. the total number of Canadians killed in Afghanistan is currently at 96. 93 soldiers, I diplomat and 2 aid workers.

Official clarification: Total as of Aug 24. Soldiers: 93 http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/08/21/cdn-soldiers.html
1 diplomat, 2 aid workers, and 1 civilian carpenter, Mike Frastacky in 2006 http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2006/07/25/bc-carpenter.html . Gathering of all fatalities at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Forces_casualties_in_Afghanistan (I found reading through the list deeply moving.)

So that makes 97 as of Aug 24.

I had not heard about Mike Frastacky ... so the number is at 97! Sadly I don't think that the number is going to be that close to 100 that we have to try to be 100% sure on the numbers. I have a feeling (and I hate it) that it will surpass 100 without difficulty considering the climate over in Afghanistan.

This is a question you'd always rather settle as No. But with 3 deaths today, the total is now 100. One of the most disturbing things I found was how very young these three soldiers look: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2008/09/03/afghanistan-canada.html

I want to thank everyone for not betting on this when the result became known. The question remained unsuspended for at least 6 hours after the news came out, and not a single person tried to take advantage of it. Shows that we do have a bit of class and decency here.

I created this question back in May ... and I guess it was a death pool of sorts. As a proud Canadian, I am very sad that this question had to settle as a yes ...especially since the latest deaths all occurred from a base in Manitoba and not far from me. One of my friends works on the base and is in the psychology dept and I know she is going through a rough time right now. I watched the numbers climb steadily over the last couple of months and realized that this was going to settle as a yes eventually and yes I did make a lot of money because of it ... I wish I hadn't though. :(
