Will President Bush VETO the bill to stop filling the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve?

Voided

Unfortunately as Erik has said we'll need a specific Bill that is to be passed to Bush so that the market can be settled. Perhaps remaking the market once the bill has passed joint committee stage?

The problem I saw with this is that it didn't specify any certain bill. When I'd read the market comments I think I misinterpreted the news story that I looked at. I thought the House and Senate had similar bills but that they hadn't reached joint committee stage to come up with one bill to send to the President. I voided this to quickly it seems as when I voided it I was not aware that a vote was occuring in the House reagrding the bill. I'd asked myunion to redo the market citing a specific bill but it was to late now that I think about it.

Apologies.

I see that both the House and Senate held symbolic votes on the subject: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080513/ap_on_go_co/congress_energy_18 However, to the best of my knowledge, neither house of Congress has cobbled together legislation to vote on. Much less passed it on to the other house to vote. More info, please? Do you have a specific House or Senate resolution number you're referring to?

Again...there is no bill before either house of Congress concerning the strategic oil reserve. This should be voided. Perhaps be re-introduced if and when a bill is passed by both Houses and sent to the President.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/13/congress.oil/index.html - references an amendment to a bill that both the house and senate voted on and bush is expected to VETO.

Also your reading is incorrect. it is not a symbolic vote in the story you read and sight; "Still the votes were symbolic, in their strong bipartisan support, of lawmakers' frustrations at not being able to agree on anything more substantive in response to public anger over near $4 a gallon gasoline and oil prices in the $125 a barrel range." the test reads the vote is "symbolic of the strong bipartisan support", not that the vote is symbolic.
As from the CNN story I read "Since the two measures came to vote in different formats -- the Senate voted on an amendment while the House had a stand-alone bill -- lawmakers will have to merge the two and approve them again. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said he hoped that would happen as early as next week." In my humble opinion your incorrect.

Strategic Petroleum Reserve, temporarily halt oil shipments to S.A.4737 to S.2284 / H.R.6022

Know your source read your source, do the backup research to write your story, Jayson Blair should have thought of it too.

The only other problem i see is bush went to the middle east, so he'll be out of office for the next week or so. I don't see him making a press statement on this bill. Within the week.

*chuckles* no need to get snippy. I simply asked for a bill or resolution that you were referring to. (14 hours ago). Since you still haven't provided that information, are we to assume you are referring to H.R.6022 and S.AMDT.4737 to S.2284? If so, one of these has to be found acceptable to the other house of Congress and ratified by that house. That being said, there is not yet a bill for the President to sign or veto. In my humble opinion

Hi everyone,

When I'd read the market comments I think I misinterpreted the news story that I looked at. I voided this too quickly as when I voided it I was not aware that a vote was occurring in the House regarding the bill. I'd asked myunion to redo the market citing a specific bill but it was to late because the House had already passed the bill. My foul up here and I apologize for that.

Apologies

To all that wonder why this question was voided.

It was voided because of the first post and the admin did not read any further or perform enough research to be able to tell the difference from missinformed individuals or whatnots.

News from the 16th:
US halts new shipments to strategic oil reserve

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States is halting shipments to its strategic oil reserve for the second half of the year after Congress passed a bill calling for the suspension, the Energy Department said Friday.

As oil prices hit new highs near 128 dollars a barrel, the Energy Department announced it had not signed a six-month contract for deliveries to the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), the world's largest stockpile of government-owned emergency crude oil.

The decision affects up to 13 million barrels of crude oil, the department said in a statement.

President George W. Bush, who had resisted lawmakers' calls for the suspension, will not veto the bill, White House spokesman Scott Stanzel told AFP.
