Will a MNS report that all hd admins were abducted by aliens making them unable 2 settle q's on 5/17

Voided

Inaccurate initial likelihoods

Background:

Not to rehash the 90 character thing, but the question should read "Will any major news source report that all hubdub admins were abducted by aliens and thus, leaving them unable to settle questions on 5/17/08."

After a quick search, I noticed that there had been no new settled questions in at least 11 hours in any category. In addition, I realized that I have at least 2 settlement requests which are more than 24 hours old and at least a dozen pending (all of which are at least 5 hours old). Then, started noticing comments on different questions regarding delayed settlements...and other hubdubber's commenting on slow settlements.

So, for the welfare and safety of our hubdub admins and whether or not something may have happened to them...maybe they really did go on the hubdub picnic, which randburg suggested...maybe a disgruntled hubdub player went on a rampage...or maybe aliens are involved!
Are they all okay?!

While facetious, sarcastic, whatever, I guess this question is intended to express frustrations with the system - beta or not. It just seems very odd that not a single question has been settled in more than 11 hours and others are now on their second day of pending request (while on other days, certain categories are settled within minutes of close).

Hope this doesn't create a backlash of comments. I have sent questions before about settlements and have had excellent responses from the admins! All of you do have a tough job and do very well in general...just trying to have a little humor in light of recent frustrations and hoping for a more consistent system. :)

I think most of us daily visitors to the site have had similar frustrations. It may not be the norm but it is annoying when it happens. I raised the same concern and posted some suggestions on the getsatisfaction forum about a week ago (http://getsatisfaction.com/hubdub/topics/questions_with_no_suspend_date_time_can_we_fix_this

A couple suggestions i made:

- Take action to settle all questions as quickly as possible. Many people have been wagering on events for which the outcome is already known (just look at some of the graphs). This should reduce laborious admin voiding time, reduce the amount of time users' H$ is out of reach, and reduce unfair wagering practices.
- Set up and admin/power-user "settlement chain" whereby questions that have reached a settlement date or been flagged for settlement flow down the chain as they age. For example, if the settlement point has been reached and not settled within 4 hours it is sent on to the secondary settling authority and then after an additional 4 hours it is sent on to a tertiary settling authority. Throughout this time period any of the settling authorities that have received the request may settle the question.

I think there may be more work at times than people to do it so streamlining the settlement process is paramount.

In all sincerity, no dis whatsoever on Hubdub in my saying this, but I have noticed a profound silence on this issue wherever presented. I am wondering if it is for simple lack of notice (in which case it should be further highlighted) or if conversations regarding solutions to the problem are taking place behind the scenes. My hope is for the latter.

In all fairness, I have sent emails through the help/contact us feature before regarding unsettled questions and have had very sincere responses. Those seemed to indicate that they do have a limited number of admins at this time and that they are working on improvements and a better system.

However, it's frustrating to see that today's most active question is one in which today will be the 3rd day that it's remained open, despite news (one of the biggest news stories at this time) and settlement requests (3 of them the last time I looked). Oh well. It is a Beta... :)

VOIDED! World governments are conspiring to cover up alien abductions and the masses are falling for the lies.
