Will the American sniper who shot the Koran be identified by May 31, 2008?

Settled as No

From BBC News:
An American sniper has been sent home from Iraq for using a copy of the Koran for target practice at a shooting range near Baghdad, the US military says.

The Muslim holy book was found riddled with bullet holes last week by Iraqi police, who also discovered offensive graffiti inside its cover.

A US military spokesman said the soldier had been removed from his unit, sent home, and would be disciplined.

He was unnamed, but was reportedly a staff sergeant in a sniper section.

US military spokesman Colonel Bill Buckner said the incident was "both serious and deeply troubling", but stressed it was an "isolated incident and a result of one soldier's actions".

Will he be identified by the end of May, or will the military authorities try to keep this to themselves in an effort to mollify the situation?

What a punishment... thrown out of Iraq. We may see a rash of copycats. :-)

Nobody was drafted, and no one in Iraq intends to come home at the cost of being thrown out in disgrace.

Check out the "Stop Loss" program. If I had completed my enlistment and was held in the Army and sent back to Iraq I wouldn't mind being "thrown out". Of course lacking full information who knows, he might just be an idiot :-)

Yea, This is bordering a good question is being thrown out of Iraq enough
"punishment" for desacration of a religous item. I mean I bet there will be several
hundred other items destroyed to get out of Iraq now also.
Now what would be bad is if the Iraq forces try to put the kid in jail for doing this instead.

Another point that just occurred to me is the danger he might be in if identified. Even though he's home now, some Islamnuts might go after him. So maybe they won't ID him in his own best interest.

I suppose bayoubear has not heard of the christiannuts, hindunuts, buddhinuts, etc. So called christians are the most violent people in the world yet because of THIS war muslims are being deemed as such.

I wonder whose "best interest" it was in when this solider shot the Quran.

of course they won't identify him (deliberatly).. quite likely someone would track him down, and maybe make him grow a beard.

Just yesterday the Baptists tried to recruit me as a suicide bomber ;-)

To quote thereligionofpeace.com - ¨ Two things happened in Iraq last week. A US soldier shot a discarded copy of the Qur’an, and al-Qaeda strapped explosives to an 8-year-old
girl, killing more Iraqis in the name of Allah. Only one of these acts enraged Muslims. Do you know Islam well enough to know which?"

yeah, offensive actions occur every day... toddlers and Muslims throw temper tantrums and hissy fits
