How many arrests will be made at Alton Towers Resort during May half term?

Settled as None

No reports of arrests.

Background:

"The Alton Towers Resort will be piloting a “PDA Free Zone” during May Half Term (May 25th – June 1st inclusive), to encourage parents to disconnect from the office and reconnect fully with their families. PDA police will be onsite to enforce the ban and any adult caught using a PDA whilst at the Resort will be asked to report to one of five “PDA Drop Off Zones” where they can safely leave their PDA’s for the day. If the scheme is successful, it will be introduced full time.

Thanks avgam.
I'll see if they will amend it to say 3 or more.

What happens if your kids go and get arrested?

Too well behaved I am sure.

Where will this be announced? Did they specifically say they will be releasing the number of arrests?

@skipper. I noticed alot of media outlets are reporting about the resorts press release as provided in the background details. Considering the amount of media interest in this, I'm guessing there will be reports if any serious problems arise.

I'm not sure that I follow the difference between "none" and "no PDA ban enforced"...What I would foresee is some people getting warned or even reprimanded, but NOT arrested...Would that be "none" or "no PDA ban enforced" since no one was arrested?

I see the problem now.
no PDA ban enforced is worded in a manner where it can be interpreted two ways.
What I mean by 'no PDA ban enforced' is a scenario where they choose not to enforce the ban.

My thinking is that they are not in business to intimidate guests...That doesn't serve a purpose...So, "none" is still the answer, even if people are requested not to use their devices. BUT, that won't necessarily mean that they didn't try to maintain control? I guess your thought here is that "if they didn't try at all" it would be "no PDA ban enforced".

A little slow today, but I've got it! Many Thanks for the clarification. (I really wan't trying to split hairs or "spitzer" this!)

Thats right buddy randburg...I thought they might have second thoughts once they realize the addiction level of many pda users.

I may well be missing something, however from reading the market background, and the news feeds for it, I don't see anything that would lead me to believe that there will be actual arrests made ... 'any adult caught using a PDA whilst at the Resort will be asked to report to one of five “PDA Drop Off Zones”

The "ban" may very well be enforced ... and while I don't know this particular theme resort, I would think it could/would be handled in a light, lively and fun way.

Which is to say, I do think the "PDA ban" will be "enforced" -- but I don't think there will be any arrests.

That said, as the market equates "PDA ban" to "arrests" ... it leads me to think both option 2 and 3 would win.

@newswrangler.

My implication is not that an arrest would be made by the resort but rather that the potential exists for a heated dispute leading to arrest. I'm suggesting it may arise from somebody having to decide between handing over their PDA or leaving the resort.

I'm not familiar with the resort.
I wonder if there is a beer gardens.

I misunderstood the question. No-one will get arrested over a PDA on a day out with their kids. Even Blackberry tosspots have their limits.

@mork - wondering if beer gardens lead to fewer or more arrests. hmmmm

mork, your comment 12 tells me I read the question wrong, I didn't think you meant literal arrests, I thought you meant the forced PDA drops you mentioned in the comments. well good thing I didn't bet much.

You'll pry my smartphone from my cold, dead hands ...

"We are not amused by an amusement park's plans to confiscate patrons' smartphones.

"You know, the PDA policeman is going to find it hard to patrol his beat when someone shoves a Palm Treo up his arse."
