Background:
Evo Morales heads both the Bolivian Coca Leaf Growers Association and the Bolivian political group Movement for Socialism. He became President of Bolivia in January 2006.
His policies have deeply divided the country, with the departments of Pando, Beni, La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and Tarija all considering declaring independance.
There is a recall election scheduled for August 10, 2008.
He has already been removed from a prior post he held as a member of parliament in 2002.
