In her concession speech, what will the primary color of Hillary's wardrobe be?

Settled as Other

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4087349.ece

"Black"

Background:

With absolutely no political basis whatsoever, let's take a well deserved diversion from the well worn path of hard-line politics we've been on for the last 18 months.

Assuming that she does make an official speech conceding defeat, what will the main color of her dress, suit, uniform, costume be?

I can't believe I'm betting on stuff like this. HuBdub is starting to effect my judgement.

@bcguelph - It isn't betting... it is predictions. LOL

I'm a guy, so I'm quite colorblind. What category does Magenta fall under?
posted 25 weeks ago
@swilson - it was very brave of you to try another color question. I found it (almost) not worth the hassle last time!

I believe magenta is pink and should therefore fall under other. Disagreements?
posted 25 weeks ago
You see! I would have thought that Pink would fall under Red. (Because Red and White make Pink.)

My 7 year old daughter, my 3 year old son, and I have this argument all the time about Pink... so Pink falls under Other?

A little background, I have an obscenely short attention span. I get so wrapped up in the minutia of the questions here on Hubdub that sometimes I just have to start clicking random buttons. So, I created what I thought was a fun no-brainer. Jenni (oh, THAT Jenni), I hope your comment isn't a harbinger of doom.
I looked up Magenta on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magenta) and the technical composition is equal parts red and blue. So in the case of magenta, it's my opinion that magenta should be settled as "other". However, if Hillary wears a magenta outfit, I think I personally would fly to where ever you are and hand you a certificate of your H$ winnings.
Wikipedia seems to be very helpful with colors, I would think that we could use it for settlement. I doubt though that the color she chooses will be so subjective that it's not obvious.

I don't think the last question had the "shade of" wording so magenta and pink would fall under the spacious Red umbrella.

owl. Pink would fall under the Red umbrella, magenta would not. Magenta is to red and blue what Pink is to Red. (Jenni, I see what you mean). I can't believe I'm at work having this conversation.

Here's the last color question I tried...
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/What_color_pantsuit_will_Hillary_Clinton_wear_to_the_Apr_16_PA_democratic_debate_4352/view

For that market, pink was definitely other.. I do believe it should be here as well. Otherwise the "shade of" could be taken too far. For instance, "purple has red and blue so we should settle both as red and blue". (No, its other)

That said, I would be SHOCKED if she wore pink or anything close to it. Hopefully the suit will be red and there won't be any need for further discussion!

I must apologize for picking Magenta. I think I saw her in a suit of that color in today's Washington Post. Honestly, I wasn't trying to stir up trouble. I'm just REALLY bad at identifying colors!

(All of my clothes are white, black, blue or grey. Just to be safe.)

Oh, no, I'm not driving this bus. Whether pink is red or other is nothing I'm going to get upset about. Let the consensus rule. I think I should create one "What color will the new first lady wear to the inauguration?" though as I'm rather fond of the drama. I can't help but think what Michelle Obama or Cindy McCain would wear would be a little different (Mrs. Obama - Blue, Mrs. McCain - Peach).
posted 25 weeks ago
Hmmm ... I always thought of magenta as "minus green" -- being the subtractive primary that it is

Minus Green isn't an option though.

Let's see ... she wore blue during her speech Tuesday night, and "gray" yesterday (Wednesday) at her speech in Washington, DC. -- so she "couldn't" wear gray at her next major televised speech (could she?)

She has a major "endorsement speech/rally" on Saturday, -- so I would think she would wanna wear blue at that, so (if so) she couldn't wear blue the day before ...

Red, then, seems likely, except it is such a "republican" (red state/blue state) color ... would she really wear that at a "concession/suspension" speech?

That leaves Green -- which from my limited knowledge of auras is a "healing color" (and is also "plus magenta" or "minus cyan and minus yellow ;-) Of course, she could wear the "healing green" on Saturday, opening up blue ...

Brown? ... nah! (watch -- it will be brown! ;-)

[gives up, goes off looking for rainbows]

(after flagging to have "suspend time" corrected ;-)

You're right newswrangler - the suspend date was the wrong Saturday.

(disclosure - I have in the past but no long plan to participate in my own questions).
posted 25 weeks ago
Heh -- well, who would have thunk-it that Clinton would cancel her Friday speech, and only have the Saturday event.
Maybe Hillary really is the candidate of change ;-)

Anyway, there goes my entire color prediction strategy.

Green is out, blue is in.

But, then there's "Other" -- which seems like a good bet for this candidate of change.

Good planning with creating this question -- not date specific ;-)

What if she wears a different color top and bottom -- which is "primary" ?

Stripes? Plaid? Tie-dye? -- which stripe is primary?

Hillary is reading this ... and will wear anything she can to create a voided market!

The Suspension Time for this is still incorrect ... (after a couple of attempts to get it fixed).
Clinton's __________________________________ speech is scheduled for Noon EDT, Saturday, June 6, 2008.
This will be manually suspended, if necessary, between 9:00 - 10:00 AM EDT.

I can't resist on weighing in here. A shade is a color you get when adding black to the base color. A tint is the color you get when adding white. Most people commonly use the term shade to refer to either a shade or a tint since neither changes the acutal hue. Since this isn't an art class, I'm assuming that is what is intended here...it might be nice for the author or an admin to weigh in that, however, before tomorrow since the topic came up. Either way it would mean that magenta would fall under "other." Since we've established that it is red+blue, then that makes it a shade/tint of purple...not red, not blue. Pink, on the other hand, is a tint of red. If shade is to be interpreted as either a tint or a shade, then that makes it a "shade" of red, not other. Sorry for the nerdiness. I put my money on red, but for Ryan's sake, I hope she sticks to a nice, monochromatic, black power suit.

OMG. I'm hoping that this isn't going to be that contentious. Let's go with X or a derivitive of X. Is that copesthetic? If there's any doubt, I trust that Ryan will make the right decision.
posted 25 weeks ago
  21 smidge76
That wasn't meant to be contentious, swilson. I was just intrigued by the conversation. If Ryan called magenta green it wouldn't matter to me, I have never, in all my months on here argued over a settlement. Also, I agree with most the others that pink is unlikely...although, I think I have seen her in magenta. Like I said, I just couldn't resist weighing in. It was the first time that "art for elementary teachers" class that I had to take in college has ever been useful (I never worked as an elemtary school teacher). Good luck to all.

No problem smidge, your post certainly wasn't percieved as hateful. I just hope that settling this isn't as tough as keeping up with the comments.

Okay, look at it this way...

The microphones are black. They contrast against her suit instead of blending into her suit, The suit, against the mics, definitely looks dark brown.

But, it doesn't matter what we see. It has to be "reported by a mainstream news source", right?

I want Barack Obama to walk in the building.....NOW! Then, as he gets onto the podium, they embrace, and rock back and forth in each other's arms.

Hillary would get major points for that.

After that speech the U.S. mainstream news should be ashamed of itself if it comments on her suit color. Good thing Hubdub is an international affair, right? Otherwise, this question wouldn't be settled.

Also, I would have loved to see Obama walk out and hold hands with her. But because he did not, it's safe to say that she's not his veep choice. They can't expect us to give Clinton yet another 30 minutes of our attention, right?

On the other hand, if Obama doesn't announce a Veep until the Democratic National Convention, then Clinton as Veep is a lock.

@jamalpeter -- that's why news-photography is so important ... a picture is worth 1,000 colors ;-)

I thought it appeared like it could be a chocolate brown on my TV set as well...look at the photo on CNN though. If we go by the suggestion to compare/contrast it with the microphones, it definitely appears black. This particular article makes no mention of color, unfortunately.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/07/clinton.unity/index.html
I take back my statement about hoping she wore a monocromatic black suit for Ryan's sake...who would have thought. <sigh> Fun question, swilson. Maybe Clinton will get a v.p. nod, I'm going to miss the pant suits.

Even better shot on the Wallstreet Journal website. The microphone is directly in front of her and blends right in.

Same photo on abcnews.com, but in the video (on the same site) it looks brown...note that the microphones do as well. Don't remember who thought of that, but it was a good call.
Neither site mentions the color. I'm not sure there will be a media concensus, jennieandboys. Your link might be it. My money is gone either way, so I'm signing out. Good afternoon, everyone, it's been fun. :)
