Will Hockey Night In Canada have a new theme song for 2008/09?

Settled as Yes

http://anthemchallenge.cbc.ca/
CBC are such cheapskates - I heartily approve

Background:

CBC has not renewed the contract for the current HNIC Theme Song for 2008/09. The current theme song has been in place since 1968.

Will they have a new song for next season or will the public outcry cause them to rethink their decision?

A technicality: CBC did not get the rights, CTV did.

I think there will be rioting on the streets of Montreal before this happens.

Canauckfan ... quiet!!!!!! If CBC hears about that idea they may jump on it and run!!!!! Lets just hope that they are not quite that stupid!

For anyone on Facebook ...I created a group about the HNIC Theme Song:

I can't believe you've done this Paulcroft.
You have forced me to log into that site for the third time ever.
I'm curious to follow your Fbpage.
CBC seriously needs to give their head a shake on this one.
They must be relying on the idea, 'there's no such thing as bad publicity.'

"The Hockey Theme song will now live on CTV Inc. properties TSN, RDS and across Canada on CTV during coverage of the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics," a news release from the company said Monday.

I would suggest leaving the market suspended for now and wait for a final answer from CBC.
