Which region will win the most boxing gold medals during the 2008 Olympic Games?

Settled as Everybody else

http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/BX/C95/BX0000000.shtml

The result was known after the first final of Saturday. There were already 4 finals between "other" states (i.e. not Cuba or Former Soviet Union). When Thai boxer won the match against his Cuban opponent (the match started 19:01 Beijing Time) it became certain that there will be at least 5 golds for the other states. Settlement time will be set for start of that match (which is aug 23rd 4:00am PST).

Background:

Cuba would be the odds-on favorite to win the most gold medals. I wanted a question that was more interesting.
If hubdub had been around in 2004, here is how the 2004 version of the question would have been settled, based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics

Cuba won 5 gold medals.
Former Soviet Union won 4 (Russia 3, Kazakhstan 1)
Everybody else won 2 (USA 1, Thailand 1)

The question would have been settled as 'Cuba'

Eleven gold medals should be awarded.

Settlement details: As reported by a major mainstream news source.

onedave, can you describe a circumstance where there could be a tie when 11 Golds will be awarded? Is there a precedent for a match being voided for some reason?

A tie between two regions can happen at 5-5-1 or 4-4-3. My reason for adding the 'or more' is that a duplicate gold medal could be awarded. I guess if a draw happens in the gold-medal match, both boxers would receive a gold medal.

I am going to treat 'Former Soviet Union' as permanent members of the Commonwealth of Independent States: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commonwealth_of_Independent_States&oldid=217592690

As of this moment, 88 boxers remain.
By my count, The former Soviet Union accounts for 20 of those standing.
The Cubans still have 7.
That means the rest have 61 still standing.
